About this listen

A crew of 47 aboard an Alaskan fishing boat ominously nicknamed “The Danger Ranger” had been counting on a final run deep into the Bering Sea as a last-ditch effort to save a mediocre fishing season. Before ever arriving, they had to abandon ship in 32-degreewater amidst 20-foot swells and driving snow. Their last hope? A cook making the key calls, a helicopter running out of fuel, and a rookie rescue swimmer who had never saved anyone in open water. On one level, this is the true-life story of the Alaska Ranger sinking and of the rescue that followed - the most daring in the history of the Bering. Below the surface, however, lies a story that is about guilt and bravery, pain and pride, and both the worst but most importantly the best of who we are.©2021 Campside Media (P)2021 Audible Originals, LLC Americas Social Sciences United States

A gripping account of real life heroism and bravery. Both the story and delivery are excellent, no pun intended but I was thoroughly immersed.

Gripping.

A wonderful story of tragedy, heroism and of a human grace we rarely see, told with non judgemental kindness

Wonderful

A sad but inspiring true tale about the perils of cold water fishing and what happens when something goes wrong. A great variety of people involved in varying roles and how the experience effected them, in different ways. And remember, fishermen put their lives at risk for us to eat fish and chips on a Friday night… a sobering thought. A great tune in Moon Smoke to accompany the series.
