  • Patience In Medication Effects
    Nov 5 2026

Starting a new medication can come with a lot of uncertainty.

This short discusses how difficult it can be to judge whether a medication is actually helping when you first begin taking it. Some medications take time to reach their full effect, and during that adjustment period it can be easy to second-guess yourself—wondering whether you’re genuinely improving, simply having a better day, or experiencing some kind of placebo effect.

That uncertainty is one reason patience and communication with your doctor matter so much.

It’s generally important to follow the treatment plan you’ve been given long enough for you and your healthcare provider to meaningfully evaluate the results, rather than abandoning it prematurely simply because the effects aren’t immediately obvious. At the same time, significant or concerning side effects should always be brought to a medical professional promptly rather than simply endured.

Medication can involve some trial and error. Sometimes the first option works well. Sometimes it doesn’t, or a dosage or treatment approach needs to be reconsidered. Either way, giving the process an appropriate amount of time under professional guidance can provide much clearer information about what your next step should be.

If something works, you’ve found another tool that can improve your quality of life. And if it doesn’t, that experience still gives you and your doctor useful information for deciding where to go next.

  • Liberating Your Creativity
    Nov 3 2026

Creativity can be powerful—but without an outlet, even the best ideas can remain trapped inside.

Many autistic individuals are deeply creative and imaginative, yet may struggle to find the right way to express that side of themselves. They may have stories to tell, ideas to explore, art to create, or perspectives worth sharing, but lack the tools, platform, confidence, or opportunity to bring those things into the world.

That’s where podcasts and internet-based shows can make such a difference.

Platforms like The Autistic Mile can give autistic creators access to recording equipment, editing software, production tools, and—most importantly—an audience. Whether someone contributes on-camera, behind the scenes, through writing, editing, research, design, or another creative role, these kinds of projects can provide a meaningful way to turn imagination into something tangible.

Those opportunities matter. When people are given the right tools and enough room to develop their talents, creativity that might otherwise have remained invisible can reach hundreds, thousands, or even millions of people.

For autistic individuals especially, having a place where their interests, ideas, and unique perspectives are treated as assets rather than obstacles can make all the difference.

Sometimes the talent was always there. It just needed somewhere to go.

  • You're Never Too Old To Need Assistance
    Nov 2 2026

Growing older doesn’t mean you suddenly have to handle every problem entirely by yourself.

There’s a pressure many adults feel to become completely self-sufficient—and why that expectation can be especially unhelpful for people on the autism spectrum. Independence can be a wonderful goal, but needing additional support at any age is not something to be embarrassed about.

That becomes particularly important when mental health enters the picture. Anxiety, depression, sleep difficulties, emotional regulation issues, and other psychological challenges don’t simply disappear because someone reaches adulthood. Sometimes managing them effectively means relying on family, therapists, doctors, medication, accommodations, or some combination of support systems.

Jim explores how common medication use already is among autistic individuals, helping challenge the idea that needing psychiatric or other medically appropriate treatment somehow represents a personal failure. Medication isn’t right for every person or every problem, but for those who benefit from it under professional guidance, it can simply be another tool for helping them function at their best.

There’s no age at which asking for help suddenly becomes shameful.

Whether the assistance you need is small or substantial, recognizing your own needs and using the resources available to you can be a sign of maturity—not weakness. Adulthood doesn’t have to mean facing everything alone.
