    Jun 4 2026
This week, Andy, Dave and producer Dane take a trip into The Twilight Zone as they explore the lost art of the TV anthology series. Andy finally confronts the black-and-white original Twilight Zone and watches the legendary "Time Enough at Last" – discovering that maybe, just maybe, old television isn't quite as rubbish as he thought. Along the way, the team discuss nuclear anxiety, thick-rimmed spectacles, Fallout's possible Twilight Zone influences, and whether the show's famous twists still work today. Dane jumps forward to the 1980s revival with the unsettling "Wordplay", a story in which language itself begins to break down. The conversation turns to communication, isolation, dementia, and why some of the scariest stories contain no monsters at all. Meanwhile, Dave heads into the darker corners of Black Mirror with the Christmas classic "White Christmas", starring Jon Hamm and Rafe Spall. The team discuss digital isolation, AI consciousness, social blocking made real, and why Charlie Brooker's vision of the future feels more relevant than ever. Three anthology classics. Three very different nightmares. And one question: are the most frightening stories really the ones about being completely alone? Featuring:• The Twilight Zone – "Time Enough at Last" (1959)• The Twilight Zone – "Wordplay" (1986)• Black Mirror – "White Christmas" (2014) Plus: Rod Serling, Wes Craven, nuclear war, Christmas existential dread, and why Dane has somehow become the lightning rod for listener complaints. • Olly Smith
    Jun 1 2026
This week on Scarred For Life, Andy Bush and Dave Lawrence are joined by wine expert, broadcaster, author and all-round enthusiast Olly Smith. Olly's scars take us from the shark-infested waters of Jaws, a film that left him terrified of swimming for decades, to the disastrous first hangover that scarred him for life, complete with a human skeleton under the bed and a quest to find the ultimate cure. Along the way, we discuss boarding school, role-playing games, Pingu, wine tasting notes, great white sharks, writing children's television, Marillion, Fish, and the peculiar objects Olly has collected throughout his life. Plus, Olly tells us about his brilliant new novel Death by Noir, reveals why he once made his wife swim next to him as shark bait, and explains how a shark cage dive in South Africa finally helped him conquer one of his oldest fears. You can pre-order Death By Noir using the code NOIR26! here To join Scarred Club and get fortnightly bonus episodes, ad-free listening and access to the members forum - sign-up here - https://scarredforlife.supportingcast.fm/ Send us a voice note on WhatsApp - 07457 404 279 Follow us on socials: Scarred For Life - Facebook / Instagram Production Company - Lock It In Studio Andy Bush - Twitter / Instagram Learn more about your ad choices. Instead of being a tongue-in-cheek nostalgia trip, the content is discussed and approached in a serious but entertaining way, taking in a fascinating period of mixed media and looking at the society and environment that created it and the impact it has had on subsequent generations. A great listen.

Engaging and conversation-starting

Love everything about this, thanks guys. Especially Alice Lowe and Peter Serafinowicz. Keep bringing them out, PLEEEEASE.

People talked about Jan Svankmajer, Czech God of scarring, and check out Down in the Cellar if you haven’t seen it. Our parents used to show it to us for the lols. Never have potatoes looked so sinister.

Creepy and lovely

The flow of conversation works really well and no podcast is the same. I’m going to buy the books now after listening to these podcasts and will probably (most likely) listen again. Perfect of you’re 40+ and want to remise about life as a child in the 80’s and 90’s when we had a lot more freedom and adventures.

A great listen and brought back some things I had wiped from my memory

Wonderful show, on the back of the amazing books that the chaps patiently and lovingly put together. Their energy and passion comes across so well. The guests are great.
If you're a child of the 70s/80s this is an absolute must. It's a lovely trip down memory lane that turns into the highway to hell as we look back at the terrifying culture of yesteryear! Do have nightmares!
