  • How do you say abciximab? (Pronunciation Series Episode 74)
    Nov 3 2026
This is the 74th episode in my drug pronunciation series. In this episode, I divide abciximab into syllables, tell you which syllable to emphasize, and list my sources. ❌ We don't cover pharmacology in this series. Just pronunciations. How do you say abciximab? abciximab = ab-SIX-i-mab,ab, like abdomenSIX, like the number 6i, which is a short "I" sound, like the "I" in the word, "president" (sounds like, "ih")mab, which is the stem for monoclonal antibodiesEmphasize SIXSources: USP Dictionary Online or drugs.com When I was a hospital pharmacy intern in the 90s, I didn't know how to say abciximab. It was a relatively new drug name at the time, and I kinda spelled it out instead of saying it. I just need to hear it once. Then, I knew how to say it forevermore. Why pick abciximab for the series? Even though my sources say that abciximab (ReoPro) has been discontinued in the US, it is still discussed among healthcare professionals and mentioned in printed resources. Therefore, the pronunciation is worth knowing. You may hear someone say it during your lifetime, and this podcast episode will help you connect the printed name with the spoken name. Plus, if you spell out drug names because you don't know how to say them, you might relate to this episode. I know what it's like to feel insecure saying something I have never heard before. The Pronunciation Series on The Pharmacist's Voice Podcast is a resource for anyone who needs a "click and listen" resource for drug pronunciations from a US pharmacist. The Series is the resource I needed when I was a pharmacy intern in the 90s, and I could still use a resource like this today. New drug names come out all the time, and knowing how to say them correctly is important. If you want to feel less frustrated learning drug names and sound more confident saying them, follow this series on The Pharmacist's Voice Podcast. Thank you for listening to episode 378 of The Pharmacist's Voice Podcast. If you know someone who would like to learn how to say abciximab, please share this episode with them.
