    The 2026 midterm exit polls just dropped, and the numbers on faith and voting are impossible to ignore. White born-again evangelicals still went 82% for Republicans — exactly the same as 2024 — but their share of the total electorate fell from 23% to 17%. That is not a rounding error. That is a smaller base doing the same heavy lifting while the rest of the religious map shifted. Protestants slipped from 63% Republican to 59%. Catholics, who gave Trump 59% in 2024, split almost evenly this time (49% Republican, 50% Democrat). Religious “nones” grew from 24% to 27% of voters and backed Democrats at 78%. The only group that moved right was Jewish voters, up to 31% Republican. Every other religious category either held or drifted left. Those are the actual exit-poll results, not a narrative. This matters for anyone who still thinks cultural issues, family, and faith are the foundation of the country. When the share of voters who identify as Christian shrinks and the nonreligious share grows, the policy fights on life, education, religious liberty, and speech do not stay the same. The Republican coalition can no longer assume the same turnout from its most reliable voters. Democrats just watched the secular share of the electorate expand again. Those are the stakes sitting inside these midterm exit polls.     Trump just posted that the GOP “would have won IN A LANDSLIDE” if he had been on the midterm ballot. The results say something else entirely. Democrats took control of the Senate with historic wins in places that were supposed to be safely red — Texas, Kansas, South Carolina, Iowa, Ohio, and North Carolina. Exit polls showed Trump at 38% approval. Sixty-two percent of voters blamed him for higher prices. Seventy-one percent said they want Congress to check him. The White House is blaming “candidate quality.” Trump is saying he simply wasn’t on the ballot. Meanwhile, James Talarico beat Ken Paxton in Texas — the first Democrat to win a Texas Senate seat since 1988. Adam Hamilton beat Roger Marshall in Kansas — the first Democrat elected to the Senate from Kansas since 1932. Annie Andrews flipped the South Carolina seat that had been held by Lindsey Graham’s family for decades. Roy Cooper flipped North Carolina. These weren’t close calls in purple states. They were deep-red territory moving. Voters were angry about the cost of living, gas prices, and the direction of the country. Trump spent weeks telling people to pretend he was on the ballot. They did — and then rejected the candidates he backed. A Democratic Senate means real leverage over the final two years of his term: judicial nominations, investigations, and any big legislative push. The White House is already talking about buyer’s remorse once gas prices drop. That conversation is going to get loud fast. Texas Senate pits Attorney General Ken Paxton against Democrat James Talarico in a state no Democrat has won statewide in decades. Michigan’s open Senate seat has former Rep. Mike Rogers against progressive Abdul El-Sayed after Gary Peters retired. Ohio’s governor’s race features Vivek Ramaswamy against Amy Acton in a state Trump has carried three times. Maine has Susan Collins defending her seat against Troy Jackson in the one Republican-held Senate race in a state Harris won. Alaska has Dan Sullivan facing Mary Peltola under ranked-choice rules in a race that has stayed tighter than the state’s presidential margin suggested. These five contests decide whether Republicans keep the Senate majority they hold at 53-47 or watch Democrats reach the four-seat net gain they need. They also decide whether key governorships stay in GOP hands. Trump’s message was simple: turnout equals landslide.
