    This is the 4th episode for the temporary Open Art School called “Ocean School,” created by the art collective Ocean School Collective (OSC) as part of their 2025 Goetemann Environmental/Installation Artist Residency at the Ocean Alliance on Rocky Neck in Gloucester, Massachusetts from September 4th to September 28, 2025, sponsored by the Rocky Neck Art Colony. In this episode, artist-philosopher Kate Farrington, Ph.D. (whose title at OSC is “Chief Curriculum Officer”) interviews Leo Santiesteban, the videographer and media archivist for the public programming of the 2025 Goetemann Environmental Installation Artist Residency at the Ocean Alliance on March 2, 2026. The episode considers the question of media in general, as Leo served as the chief documentarian during the G.A.R. artist residency that was filmed using professional video equipment, drone cameras, and other modes of recording media. Leo describes his early work in Cuba where he helped secure location resources for two nature documentaries as well as his experience filming the G.A.R. residency. Topics include the role of the camera in mediation, especially when it comes to earth ecology; “Three-ing” by 1960s video artist Paul Ryan, and the role of the archive. For more information, see:
