76% of nurse burnout symptoms are actually unresolved nurse trauma. Not burnout. Trauma. The distinction changes everything about how you heal. For 50 years they sold you the wrong diagnosis. Dr. Lorre Laws, nurse neuroscientist, trauma researcher, and author of Nursing Our Healer's Heart, has the science they never taught you in nursing school. Every week, Dr. Lorre exposes what healthcare institutions are hiding about nurse-specific trauma and guides you through her evidence-based 5-Step Nurse Trauma Healing Process. No resilience theater. No wellness platitudes. Just the truth. It's not burnout. It's nurse trauma. And you deserve to know the difference.Copyright 2026 Lorre Laws Hygiene & Healthy Living Personal Development Personal Success Psychology Psychology & Mental Health Science Social Sciences

  • Was It Nurse Burnout or the House That Tried to Kill Me?
    Oct 20 2026

For twenty four years Dr. Lorre Laws was misdiagnosed. She had been living in a house fraught with toxic mold, and nobody could name what was wrong with her, including the top rheumatologist at UCLA. In this episode she becomes her own case story, told in the same SBAR format she uses in her nurse trauma healing programs. It ends with the brain scan that finally named it and changed the course of her work.

    Key Points

Reliving a traumatic event is contraindicated in nurse trauma healing work. Situation and symptoms only, in SBAR format.

Nearly twenty years in a house fraught with toxic mold, at a time when the evidence base on mold illness was still in its infancy.

Twenty four years of misdiagnosis and medical gaslighting, all of it from competent and well-intended providers.

Eight medications, the opiate ladder all the way to methadone and morphine, and the loss of health insurance in the pre Affordable Care Act era.

Tapering off all eight medications using half-life tables from a public library. It took a year.

A NeuroQuant MRI measures the volume of brain structures and left to right symmetry. Hers found severe PTSD and limbic system impairment.

85.3 percent of the 2,000 plus nurses in the Nurse Trauma Indicator data set reported they are not sure how much longer they can do this.

  • The Burnout Program That Told LaRonda She Was the Problem
    Oct 8 2026

LaRonda asked her hospital for help and got a commercial burnout program, an app, and a biofeedback device. She was carrying 19 trauma symptoms out of 25 at the time. Dr. Lorre Laws traces every burnout module in American healthcare back to a 1974 paper that located the problem and the fix inside the individual worker, and shows why not one instrument in that class asks what the ratios, the violence, or the mandated overtime did to a nurse body. Then she shares partial findings from 2,137 nurses who completed the free nurse trauma assessment in 6 weeks, including the number that stopped her. 45.5 percent of the most symptomatic nurses still have not questioned the burnout narrative.

    Key points

    - 2,137 nurses completed the free nurse trauma assessment in 6 weeks. 78.4 percent report 12 or more trauma symptoms out of 25.

    - 45.5 percent of that high burden group have not questioned the burnout narrative. They average 15.67 symptoms out of 25. Mind-soma dissonance at scale.

    - LaRonda reported 19 symptom clusters out of 25 while enrolled in a hospital sponsored burnout program.

    - Burnout syndrome was introduced by Freudenberger in 1974. He named long hours, low pay, and administrative pressure, and proposed changing none of them. His prevention plan was screening workers.

    - The Maslach, Copenhagen, Oldenburg, and Shirom-Melamed instruments all inherit that framing. Only the Professional Quality of Life Scale-5 captures secondary traumatic stress, which is 1 of the 7 categories in Foli Middle Range Theory of Nurses Psychological Trauma.

    - After 50 years of these tools the burnout trend has increased, not decreased.

    - Naviaux cell danger response explains why the symptoms persist. When the threat returns every shift, the healing cycle stays blocked and mitochondria stay in defense.

  • TIME Magazine Just Said the Quiet Part Out Loud
    Sep 24 2026

On the 4th of August, 3 days after her daughter gave birth, Dr. Lorre Laws opened her inbox to find nurses across the country sending her the same TIME Magazine headline. Stop Saying There's a Nursing Shortage. In this episode she walks through the arithmetic she has been citing for 8 years, more than 5.5 million licensed registered nurses against roughly 3.4 million nursing jobs, and the story of Diana, an ICU nurse who stepped away from the bedside rather than keep absorbing an institution's staffing failure. Hospital vacancy rates are falling while intent to leave holds flat, and that divergence is the whole argument. It was never a shortage of nurses. It is a shortage of nurses willing to be traumatized in the role.

    Key Points

    • More than 5.5 million actively licensed RNs (NCSBN) against roughly 3.4 million nursing jobs (BLS). The licensed pool could fill every current vacancy nearly 8 times over.
    • TIME ran the same subtraction from the same public sources and reached the same place.
    • Karen Lasater's framing. Not a pipeline that runs dry. A gas tank with a leak.
    • Hospital vacancy fell from 9.6 percent to 8.6 percent while 2 in 5 nurses still intend to leave within 5 years and turnover holds near 18 percent.
    • Empathy manipulation. How an institution transfers its staffing failure onto the individual nurse, then calls the injury burnout.
    • 96 percent of nurses carry at least one symptom of post-traumatic stress.
    • Recognition is where healing begins. It is not where healing ends.

    Featured Stories

Diana. ICU nurse, Nervous System Reset for Nurses attendee, currently away from the bedside.

Megan. Dr. Lorre's daughter, first introduced in Issue 94.
