Summary

Join Andy and Jon, two friends who have discussions with invited guests about their personal relationships with automotive nostalgia and family history.

Each episode kicks off with us asking our guest “what’s your earliest car memory?”
From there it’s a journey back through time towards the modern day, but generally focusing on vehicles we remember from childhood.
We ask about siblings, neighbours, music, smells, smoking, breakdowns, selling, buying, accidents and more.

Despite the podcast title, we don’t discriminate against cars belonging to other people, such as Mum’s, Gran’s, Uncle’s, Aunts, friends, or even a neighbours.
If those cars made an impression, we want to talk about them.

In this episode, Andy is joined by co-host Paul Harding to chat with Peter Haynes, European Marketing Director at RM Sotheby’s, exploring a lifetime surrounded by extraordinary cars.

Peter shares memories of growing up with his father’s pre-war Aston Martin and BMW 328, learning to rebuild an Austin Seven from the ground up, and driving in a Ferrari 250 GT SWB that his dad could have bought for just a few thousand pounds.

Along the way, we discuss classic Citroëns, childhood motoring adventures, Peter’s own Ferrari ownership, the rising costs of historic racing, and how classic cars have transformed from affordable hobbies into multimillion-pound investments.

Plus, a look at the importance of traditional mechanical skills, apprenticeships, the friendships forged through motoring, and why the best car stories are often about the people behind the wheel.

  • Alex Michaelides: My Dad's MGC, Citroen XM, Formula Ford and Kit Car Company. S9E2
    Oct 20 2026

    Send us Fan Mail

Alex Michaelides joins Andy and Jon to share how his father’s lifelong passion for cars shaped his own childhood and career. His earliest motoring memory is sitting in the family garage inside his dad’s 1985 Delta Formula Ford, surrounded by the sights and smells of a racing car. Alongside it were a rare Florida Green MGC University Special, an MGB and, later, a Ferrari 308 GT4.

Alex recalls an eclectic succession of family cars, from a Mercedes W123 and Triumph Acclaim to a Citroën XM estate large enough to sleep in during a trip to the British Grand Prix. He also reflects on his father’s racing ambitions, entrepreneurial side projects and determination after losing his job, including buying the rights to a 1950s-inspired kit car based on a Triumph Spitfire chassis.

The conversation also covers memorable cars owned by relatives, friends and neighbours, including a purple TVR Cerbera, a metallic-gold turbocharged Lexus and his grandfather’s imposing Daimler 6 in Cyprus. Alex shares memories of an Italian road trip with his father in an Alfa Romeo 159, the music his mother embraced to connect with him, and his dream of one day owning a Ferrari Boxer.

At its heart, this episode is about much more than machinery. It is a warm story of family, resilience and the lasting bond created by a shared love of cars.

  • Jo Kingman - Skulls and Snaps: Dad was a Policeman, but our Lada got stolen! Washing my Dad's Rover 800, 3 wheeled XR2 and a hotboxed Ford Orion, Chrysler Neon, Vauxhall FronteraS9E1

No Jon this week, but instead we're joined by Paul Gardiner from Speedbroker.

As it happens, and by sheer fluke, Paul is good friends with out guest, Jo, and so we have a really open and honest conversation about her car memories, caring for her Dad, going car spotting as a form of respite from caring, and buying a dream car to help remember her Dad since he has passed away.

Jo's earliest car memory is cleaning her Dad's Rover 800 at the weekend.

Later, they had a Lada, but this sadly got stolen (who steals a Lada?!)

They also had a Ford Orion, which some youths kindly entered without permission and 'hot boxed' it to get high, leaving all the windows down to clear the smoke before they went to use it again the next day.

The Orion was replaced by a Ford Fiesta XR2, but this had a wheel malfunction and became a 3 wheeler whilst in motion!

Jo's Dad was a Policemen when he was at work - and she would drive the Panda cars sat on his lap around the Police compound.

More recently Jo recalled a Renault Laguna, then a Peugeot 406 Coupe a Chrysler Neon and a Vauxhall Frontera.
