A new season of Monumentos a las Maternidades (Monuments to Motherhood) is coming, this time in Mexico and in Spanish. Molly Gochman co-hosts with Bárbara Arredondo Ayala.

We’ll travel from Oaxaca to Xochimilco to Mexico City, sharing the work of activists, organizers, and communities who show us what care can look like. We’ll hear from domestic workers who organized for their rights, Indigenous networks of care in Oaxaca, and the architects and policymakers behind the Utopías and Mexico City’s new care law.

We can’t wait to share how care and motherhood show up in their lives and work, and what it will take to keep building on it.

Just before the unveiling of her 15-foot Monuments to Motherhood sculpture near Grand Army Plaza, Molly takes a walk through Prospect Park with Morgan Monaco, President of the Prospect Park Alliance. Together, they reflect on how public parks—and the people who care for them—nurture and sustain the communities they serve.

Fast forward to Mother’s Day: Molly celebrates the sculpture’s unveiling with friends, family, and community members during a day of activities. A few days later, she returns to the site with her 9-year-old daughter Anra, where they encounter an unexpected guest and share a surprising moment of connection.

In the first of two bonus episodes, Molly travels to Memphis to unveil the first sculptures of the Monuments to Motherhood series at the newly renamed Medical District Park, formerly the site of a Confederate monument honoring American slave trader Nathan Bedford Forrest. The installation of Molly's sculptures signifies a significant shift in the park's history, transforming it into a space that celebrates the city's caregivers.

Molly engages in conversation with local leaders, including Attorney Van D. Turner, Jr., and Kirkwood Vangeli, the Program Coordinator at Memphis Medical District Collaborative (MMDC). They discuss the city's history, as well as their personal stories related to caregiving.
