About this listen

For Levi Roots, food isn't just fuel. It's stories, comfort, love, history, culture, identity... everything.

Levi invites six guests into his kitchen to cook one of their favourite dishes and share stories of identity, culture, life and work. Together they'll take us on a culinary journey from Grenada to Ukraine, via India and Ireland.

50 years after he left Jamaica for the UK, Levi is still able to summon happy memories of being raised by his grandmother when he cooks the recipes she taught him - Ackee and Saltfish, Brown Stew Chicken, Curry Goat - and Levi is fascinated to discover the flavours that evoke his guest's fondest memories too.

An excellent listen, it felt like you were in the kitchen with them. Enjoyably intimate, well done and superbly engaging. Levi's informal maner got the best from his guests.

the only thing missing was the smell!

I would normally not have listened to this type of food/cooking podcast however I thoroughly enjoyed Levi and the way he presented the show.
it even inspired me to do some investigating into Ukranian cuisine.

I'd actually give this 3.5 if I could. it's really not that ground breaking. but it's different to other podcasts I've listened to on here, so I enjoyed it more for that reason. Levi Roots made me laugh a few times and the stories from the guests were heart warming. I might even look up some of the recipes, as they all sounded delicious!

Interesting guests with food that inspires
