• EP210 Starburst Candy Eyes [Conform by Ariel Sullivan]
    Feb 1 2026

Today, we are sitting down discussing a novel off of Sam's TBR called Conform! This novel made one of us feel nostalgic for the best reasons. Although one of us was completely lost with what was happening. Almost as lost as Sam was when she broke a door at work!

We do want to mention that this podcast episode was pre-recorded, but we do want to mention that this podcast believes that everyone deserves safety, dignity, and the right to exist without fear. What Ice and the current adminstration is doing is disgusting. Our hearts go out to those in Minnesota and those who have been affected by what is happening. We stand with you.

    About The Novel:

In the far future, one young woman finds herself torn between two loves—and two sides of a rebellion boiling under the surface—in the first novel of a sweeping dystopian romance trilogy. Centuries after a catastrophic world war nearly decimated the human population, a city arose from the ashes, ruled by an elusive and technologically advanced group called the Illum. At twenty-seven, Emeline lives in limbo, wasting away her days in a job sorting ancient human art for destruction and waiting to be selected as a Mate for a procreation contract. Where others look forward to being chosen, Emeline has never felt like she fit into a society where a person’s worth is determined by constantly monitored genes, health, and the ability to procreate. She’s struggled to keep her discomfort secret, but when she is finally chosen, her Mate is revealed to be a member of the Illum named Collin, a man who seems to be harboring secrets of his own. It is the first time an Illum has taken a Mate in decades, leaving Emeline—and others—baffled as to why she was chosen. Soon, she is swept into the dangerous game of Courting, filled with ballgowns, lavish dinners, and watchful eyes, where one wrong move can mean elimination. While parts of this elite lifestyle are unexpectedly appealing, the more embroiled she becomes, the more she sees its dark underbelly—and a rebellion rising in secret. Collin is confusing, both cold and protective, and worse, she finds herself drawn to the very last person she should be falling for: Hal, one of the resistance leaders. As she draws closer to both Collin and Hal, the Illum exercise their power in increasingly brutal ways, forcing Emeline to question everything—most of all whether she’ll have to give up her heart and even her life to stop them.

  • EP208 Palm Springs Who? [People We Meet On Vacation Movie]
    Jan 18 2026

Welcome to our very first movie review. Today, we are sitting down to talk about People We Meet on Vacation.

We originally read the Emily Henry book back in episode 22, which honestly feels wild because it has been so long.

Get comfy as we break down the differences between the book and the movie, what worked, what surprised us, and where the adaptation took a few creative detours.

    About the Novel:

Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together. Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since. Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows without a doubt it was on that ill-fated final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees. Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

  • EP206 A Reversed Twilight? [ A Steep and Savage Path by J.J.A. Harwood]
    Jan 4 2026

We’re officially back from our break, and we do apologize for the awkwardness. We may have forgotten how to be podcasters. In this episode, we ease back into things, talk about just how many books we somehow managed to read while away (not many), and what we are currently reading. We also take a deep dive into our pick of the week, A Steep And Savage Path.

    About The Book:

Irina is about to be married to a dead man. She is the willing village sacrifice for the Wedding of the Dead: a desperate ritual designed to lay the hungry vampire that has been terrorising her Transylvanian village to rest. Irina’s beloved sister’s soul is trapped in the land of the dead. If Irina can retrieve it, she could bring her back – but Irina would need a guide, one who can walk between the living and the dead. Irina strikes up a deal with her new husband – if he agrees to get her safely there and back again, then he can drink her blood as much as he wants. They begin a perilous journey through the afterlife together, in which Irina realises Stefan isn’t the cruel and terrifying monster that she thought. In a land of three-headed beasts, winged creatures and walking corpses, the last thing Irina would have expected was to fall in love. Only, Irina learns that by bringing Stefan to the land of the dead, she has put him in grave danger, and will be faced with an impossible choice. Will they be able to make it out, undead or alive?

    Summary:

My name’s Ernest Cunningham. I used to be a fan of reading Golden Age murder mysteries, until I found myself with a haphazard career getting stuck in the middle of real-life ones. I’d hoped, this Christmas, that any self-respecting murderer would kick their feet up and take it easy over the holidays. I was wrong.

So here I am, backstage at the show of world-famous magician Rylan Blaze, whose benefactor has just been murdered. My suspects are all professional tricksters: masters of the art of misdirection.

    THE MAGICIAN

    THE ASSISTANT

    THE EXECUTIVE

    THE HYPNOTIST

    THE IDENTICAL TWIN

    THE COUNSELLOR

    THE TECH

My clues are even more abstract: A suspect covered in blood, without a memory of how it got there. A murder committed without setting foot inside the room where it happens. And an advent calendar. Because, you know, it’s Christmas.

If I can see through the illusions, I know I can solve it.

After all, a good murder is just like a magic trick, isn’t it?

    • A cozy holiday read
    • Perfect for fans of winter mysteries
    • A delightful Christmas gift
