• Should Happiness Be The Goal?
    Sep 7 2026

The Nervous System Emergency Kit: a circuit breaker for the moment your nervous system feels overwhelmed or hijacked. Free emotional regulation tools → grab your kit: https://minddrophq.com/emergencykit

We say "I just want to be happy" like it's the most reasonable goal in the world. And of course you want to be happy, most of us do. But somewhere along the way happiness stopped being something we feel and turned into something we chase, a finish line that keeps moving further away the closer we get.

In this episode Jodi unpacks why happiness makes a shaky goal to chase, and why the moment you start measuring it you tend to feel less of it. She looks at why this trap is so sticky for people who are good at chasing goals, then gets into what to aim at instead, so a day that doesn't feel particularly happy can still be a day that means something.

    In This Episode

Why happiness is an emotion that comes and goes rather than a permanent place you arrive at, and what regulation actually means. The "when I, then" trap, and why we're so good at turning happiness into a target. The Mauss research on what happens when you place a really high value on feeling happy. Why feeling bad about feeling bad makes it worse, and the Ford and Lam work on accepting your emotions. Hedonic adaptation, why the high always fades, and the Sheldon and Lyubomirsky model. Why celebrating the win before you move the goalpost actually matters. And what to aim at instead: meaning, growth, contribution and connection, through the lens of Self-Determination Theory.

  • Where Does Faith Fit Into Manifestation?
    Aug 31 2026

Where does faith fit into manifestation, and what about your part?

In this episode Jodi shares her personal take on holding faith and neuroscience at the same table, without forcing either one to explain the other away.

She gets into what science can actually measure about belief, where manifestation can tip over into blame, and why faith doesn't let you off the hook for your own part. It's the finale of the four-part manifestation miniseries.

    In This Episode

Where faith and spirituality actually fit in the manifestation conversation. What science can and can't measure about belief, including the Ano and Vasconcelles research on religious coping. The two very different things people mean when they say "energy", and which one has observable mechanisms. Where manifestation tips into blame, and why that version does real harm. How faith runs through both the vision-led and the evidence-led pathway. The difference between influencing an outcome and controlling it. And why the door opening is God's part, and walking through it is yours.

  • Why Your Brain Calls BS on Your Manifestation
    Aug 24 2026

When you read your manifestation goal and something in you pulls the other way, that pushback is information. This episode is about what's actually happening when the goal your conscious mind wants meets the old beliefs and nervous system predictions already running underneath it.

Jodi walks through a practical, repeatable process for reading that internal conflict instead of affirming over it: notice, regulate, clarify, clear, rewire, act, gather evidence, integrate. The aim is to get your inner world and your real-life action moving in the same direction, because that's when things actually start to shift.

    In This Episode

Why your brain pushes back on a goal you consciously want. The background check your beliefs, values and identity run on every intention. How the guard dog and forecaster read a goal as a prediction of what it'll cost you. When the pushback is an old belief, and when it's clarity worth listening to. The process of notice, regulate, clarify, clear, rewire, act, gather evidence and integrate. Where tapping and neuro-rewiring fit, and what they can and can't do. And why the win only counts if you let it.

  • Can You Manifest Something You Never Imagined?
    Aug 17 2026

Can you manifest a life you can't even picture? This is part two of the manifestation series, and it's for the people vision boards and affirmations have never really worked for. There are two ways to manifest: some people see the outcome first and borrow belief from the picture, and some people start moving and build belief from the evidence as they go.

Jodi gets into why a present-tense affirmation can feel like lying to yourself, what actually builds belief when you can't picture the future yet (backed by Albert Bandura's research on self-efficacy), and why getting something and being able to hold it are two very different things. For the self-aware, heart-led human who's done waiting to feel certain before they begin.

    In This Episode

    • Why vision boards and affirmations work for some people and fall flat for others
    • The two pathways into manifesting, and why neither one is the wrong way in
    • Why a present-tense affirmation can land like a lie, and what that's really telling you
    • Albert Bandura on self-efficacy, and why your own evidence shifts belief in a way a vision can't
    • The research on possible selves, and how expert entrepreneurs actually begin when they can't see the end
    • The bit manifestation talk skips: getting something and being able to hold it aren't the same thing

  • Have We Been Using the Word Manifestation Wrong?
    Aug 10 2026

I love a good vision board. I also know a lot of people who've made one and then gone absolutely nowhere with it.

This week we pull the word manifestation apart, because we've bundled visualising, intention setting, affirmations and goal setting into one term and then wondered why the board on the wall changed nothing. You'll see what manifestation actually is, where a vision board really helps and where it leaves you stuck, and what Gabriele Oettingen's research says about why picturing the finished outcome can drain the very energy you'd need to chase it.

Then I walk you through exactly how I set intentions so the action is built in from the start, and the part almost everyone skips: the point where the lovely, controlled vision meets real life, and whether you've got the capacity to keep taking the next ordinary step when it stops feeling exciting.

    In This Episode

    • What manifestation actually means, and why squashing it all into one word keeps you stuck
    • Where a vision board really helps, and where it quietly stops working
    • What Oettingen's research says about why picturing the outcome can sap your drive
    • The exact way I set intentions, with the action built in from the start
    • What's happening in your brain when you set an intention this way
    • Why the vision so often stalls at the first uncomfortable step, and what it takes to keep going

  • Self Sabotage Isn't What You Think...
    Aug 3 2026

Part of me was relieved when it fell apart. There, I said it. That's the thing people don't usually admit out loud, and it's where this episode starts.

This week we take the word everyone reaches for, self-sabotage, and pull it apart, because it's doing more damage than the pattern it's describing. You'll see why the relief you feel when a good thing falls over is the exact reason it keeps happening, why "self-sabotage" makes it sound like there's a defective part of you waiting to wreck things when that's usually not what's going on, and the four different engines that can be driving the whole thing.

Then the strange part: why the pull to bail gets loudest right as the thing you want is nearly in your hands. Running underneath all of it, the reframe the episode lands on: you're not your own worst enemy, a short-term protective strategy is just beating a longer-term intention.

    In This Episode

    - Why the relief you feel when a good thing falls apart is the reason the pattern repeats

    - Why "self-sabotage" might be the wrong word, and what's actually happening instead

    - The four engines underneath the behaviour: relief, protection, conflict, and capacity

    - Why the pull to wreck it gets louder the closer you get to the finish line

    - Why "fear of success" gives you nowhere to go, and the better question to ask instead

    - What actually shifts the pattern, matched to whichever engine is driving yours

  • Why You Attract The Same People - Even When You Swore You Wouldn't
    Jul 27 2026

You left the last one for good reason. You found someone new. And somehow you're right back in the same dynamic you swore you'd never repeat, just with a different face.

This week we pull apart the word everyone uses, attract, and swap it for the one that's actually happening: recognise. You'll see why the spark you feel is often your nervous system matching someone to an old blueprint, why the steady, available person can feel flat or boring, and why the same dynamic keeps rebuilding itself even when you choose someone completely different. And running underneath all of it, the line this episode won't let go of: your nervous system recognising someone does not make you responsible for what they chose to do.

    In This Episode

    • Why "attract" is the wrong word, and what your nervous system is actually doing when you feel a spark
    • The mere exposure effect, and why familiar gets mistaken for safe
    • Why the kind, consistent, available person can feel like nothing at all
    • How the same dynamic shows up even at work, with people you never chose, and what that proves
    • Arrested development, minus the insult, and the one area that never got the conditions to grow
    • What actually rewires the pattern, and why understanding it has never been enough on its own
