  • What Lurks in the Treeline: Phenomena of Camp Lejeune & Onslow County (Part 3)
    Oct 17 2026

Camp Lejeune has its fair share of ghost stories, but after years of investigating the area and hearing experiences from Marines and locals, we've started wondering if there's more to these hauntings than just the military base itself.

In Haunted Camp Lejeune Part 3, we take things a little further by looking into the history of Onslow County, North Carolina, and what was here long before Camp Lejeune was established. We share some of the things uncovered while researching the area's past, including early settlements, slavery, the turpentine industry, displaced families, and old burial grounds. Some of this history isn't talked about nearly as much as you might think, and it raises some interesting questions about the experiences people continue to report today.

We also had an overwhelming response to a TikTok post asking locals and Marines to share their paranormal experiences. With over 140 comments, there were plenty of stories to go through, and some of them were pretty unsettling. We're talking about children appearing in the woods at Camp Devil Dog, voices mimicking family members, shadow figures, strange animal encounters, and even a military training exercise where something unusual was reportedly spotted through thermal equipment.

Along the way, we share some of our own experiences investigating the area, including a few recent encounters that have left us scratching our heads.

There's a lot to unpack in this one, and while we don't claim to have all the answers, we wanted to take a closer look at the history, the stories, and the similarities that keep showing up. Because the more we look into what's happening around Camp Lejeune and Onslow County, the more questions we seem to have.

  • If You Hear It, Don’t Whistle Back: The Ancient Lore of Appalachia
    Oct 7 2026

Are the Appalachian Mountains merely an ancient geological wonder, or does North America's oldest mountain range hold an energetic memory that actively preys upon the living? In this official kickoff episode of Spooky Season on Hidden In The Shadows, Megan and Isaac dive deep into Appalachian lore, unearthing centuries of high strangeness, forgotten inhabitants, and terrifying oral traditions. From the ancient bedrock that predates the Atlantic Ocean to deep hollows shrouded in blue haze, they explore how extreme isolation, historical trauma, and geography combine to create a hotbed for the paranormal. Megan breaks down dark Cherokee legends, including the stone-skinned Spearfinger and the feared Raven Mocker, while sharing a personal channeling experience of an Appalachian wolf guide leading to hidden subterranean realms. Meanwhile, Isaac examines the power of egregores, acoustic infrasound, and pop-culture cryptids, as both hosts connect the dots between mountain anomalies and the eerie swamp phenomena they investigate back home in Eastern North Carolina.

    In this episode, we explore:

    • Ancient Geology & Pangaea Connections: How mountains older than trees, dinosaurs, and the Atlantic Ocean once mirrored the Scottish Highlands and why that ancient bedrock holds energy.
    • The Physics of Fear vs. Mimics: Examining the skeptic's case: how wind whistles through narrow ravines producing low-frequency infrasound that induces nausea and auditory hallucinations against real encounters with voice mimics.
    • Cherokee Lore & Predatory Entities: Breaking down the terrifying legends of Spearfinger (U'tlun'ta), the heart-stealing Raven Mocker (Kâ'lanu Ahyeli'skï), and why indigenous tradition treats the liver as the vessel of life force.
    • Subterranean Races & Hidden Coves: Investigating the enigmatic Moon-Eyed People, the Little People (Yunwi Tsunsdi), the Immortals, and cave systems that run beneath the ancient ridges.
    • Mountains vs. Swamplands: Drawing chilling parallels between Appalachian hollows and coastal Carolina pocosins, from runaway isolation history to swamp hags and uncanny animal sightings.
    • Land Scars & Energetic Wounds: How events like the Trail of Tears act like infected wounds on the land, creating spiritual imbalances and opening interdimensional portals.

Question for Listeners: Do you believe ancient mountain ranges hold onto historical trauma and open energetic portals, or are forest mimics simply acoustic tricks of the wind? Have you ever had an encounter in the woods where an animal or voice felt deeply "wrong"?

Folklore, History & Channeling Disclaimer: References to modern figures like "The Rake" are used strictly as contemporary visual archetypes to describe what witnesses report seeing, rather than verified traditional folklore. Regarding regional prehistory: in Cherokee oral tradition, the Moon-Eyed People were regarded as preexisting inhabitants encountered when early ancestors entered the region, rather than Indigenous Cherokee ancestors themselves.
