  • Ep #361 The 530-Day Trap: Coercive Control, Strangulation and the Fight for Paris’s Law with Paris Shears
    Aug 10 2026
Paris Shears never imagined that the man she fell in love with would groom, physically harm and control her. What began as a seemingly loving relationship became a pattern of coercive control, intimidation and violence that left her fearing for her life. When Paris's former partner was charged with offences including intentional strangulation and assault, he initially pleaded not guilty. After more than a year with the trial looming over her head, Paris went to court for the first day of the trial, and there was a closed meeting where he changed his plea and took a deal. The consequences have been devastating for Paris which is why she launched a petition calling for Paris's Law, and urgent reform so perpetrators cannot control victims once charged and benefit from changing their plea at the last minute in cases involving domestic abuse and coercive control. In this episode Laura and Paris discuss: Paris's relationship and the gradual progression of coercive control. Grooming behaviours and how predators identify and exploit vulnerability. The impact of people-pleasing, trauma and self-abandonment. Red flags and behavioural patterns that should never be ignored. Why coercive control is often misunderstood by family, friends and professionals. The criminal charges brought against Paris's former partner and the outcome of the case. The impact of late guilty pleas on victims and the justice process. Paris's Law campaign and the reforms Paris hopes to achieve. Why behavioural analysis and pattern recognition are critical to preventing violence against women and girls. • Ep #359 Kennedi Westcarr-Sabaroche - Murder or Manslaughter? with Linda Westcarr
    Aug 3 2026
In April 2024 25-year-old Kennedi Westcarr-Sabaroche was a social media marketer and mother from East London who was found murdered in her car. She had been strangled and stabbed. Days before her death, Kennedi told a friend she was “on a break” from her relationship with Gogoa Lois Tape. But Tape lured her to meet him under false pretences and strangled her in the driver’s seat of her own car—for eight minutes. Tape was charged with murder, but prosecutors ultimately accepted a guilty plea to the lesser offence of manslaughter by diminished responsibility. He was sentenced to a hospital order under Section 37 of the Mental Health Act with a restriction order under Section 41. This means he will not serve a day in prison. In this episode, Laura applies her expertise in behavioural analysis to determine whether there were coercive and controlling behaviours prior to Kennedi’s death and examines Tepe’s post offence behaviour where he confesses to murder. Did he have clarity of mind and a consciousness of guilt? Did the court get it right? Just five months after sentencing, there was a move to apply for escorted leave for Tape. Linda is aggrieved and shares and why this is not justice. In this episode Laura and Linda discuss: Victimology: Kennedi's life and the person she was beyond the headlines; The antecedents to Kennedi’s death; Behavioural patterns and warning signs that should never be ignored; The impact of coercive control and escalating abuse; The family's experience of the investigation and court process; The intersection of violent offending, mental illness and public safety; Why victims and families deserve to be heard; What needs to change to better protect women and prevent future homicides. #KennediWestcarrSabaroche #CrimeAnalyst #LauraRichards #DomesticAbuse #CoerciveControl #MaleViolence #Femicide #Expert #Analysis #Victimology #HomicidePrevention #TrueCrime #Podcast Clip  https://www.tiktok.com/@yeamasaphar3/video/7607190671186726166?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc  Support Crime Analyst  If you value these conversations, please follow, rate, and review Crime Analyst wherever you listen to podcasts. really interesting deep dive into criminal mind and criminal actions and behaviour. I was fascinated listening, particularly to the Sophie Toscan du Plantier episodes as I know that area well and remember the shock I felt when her murder happened in a place i felt so safe and at peace.

highly recommend

Laura Richards is incredible in the way she brings her expertise in homicide prevention, Unlike much true crime, which feels voyeuristic, she foregrounds the victims' stories and is a passionate advocate for change. It's like having a friend alongside, helping empower us as women and understand the mindset that is behind femicide in particular. The detail with which she walks the listener through cases is astounding. I can't stop listening.

So much more than a true crime podcast

I unashamedly cried throughout most of this episode .

This amazing series ought to be taught in the educational system and in the police establishment. Furthermore legal reparation needs to be enforced against any media platform that deals with such horrific and traumatic crimes.

Written with such care & dignity for the victims
