Summary

"For anyone who wants a little taste of sunshine." Clippings is a gardening show that's more about plant enthusiasm than plant expertise. Host Topher Burns just moved from an apartment in Brooklyn to a house in Portland - finally some dirt to play with, and he has got *projects* planned. Things don't always go right. Warning: some plants might die. Fortunately his mom's green-thumb advice is just a phone call away. For master gardeners and marigold-novices alike, each episode is a quick, delightful moment spent outside. Imagine leaning over your fence and asking your neighbor what he's doing in his yard today. You might get some helpful gardening tips, you might just enjoy the sound of the birds. Either way, you're going to be glad you took a moment to stop and smell the gardenias.Copyright 2025 Topher Burns

  • That flower life (s1e16)
    Feb 8 2023

There are clumps of roses on sale at your nearest 7-11, but when you look at them you don't imagine how they grew or where they came from. Bouquets from Deadhead Floral here in Portland are totally different. You feel the sun and hear the wind when you look at their creations.

Join me in the garden of Deadhead's founder Mackenzie - her fascination with a flower's full life is a total paradigm shift from the average grocery store Russell Stover's tragedy.

If you're in Portland and would like a Deadhead Floral creation of your very own, you can find wreathes on sale at both Portland Nursery locations or DM Mackenzie on Deadhead's Instagram.

  • Stop buying birdseed (s1e14)
    Dec 10 2022

This conversation with Jonathan from @BundyCreekNatives did nothing less than change how I think about gardening. I think it'll do the same for you. Before you press play, ask yourself this simple question: "why do I buy birdseed?" Then strap the *!@# in.

For more information about habitat gardening here's a quick article with an introduction to some basic ideas.
