CHRISTOPHER LIAM ROSE TALKS ABOUT #CLRM - LONELINESS (CLRML)

Buddhism views loneliness as a form of suffering (dukkha) that stems from craving, attachment, and the illusion of a separate self.

    The Cause of Loneliness

The Illusion of Separation: Teachings like those found on Lion's Roar explain that loneliness comes from believing we are isolated individuals. In reality, Mahayana Buddhism teaches that all beings are interconnected.

Craving and Expectations: Loneliness arises from tṛṣṇā (thirst or craving) and unmet expectations of how others should treat us or fill our internal void.

Dependence on External Sources: Relying entirely on other people or social media for happiness creates a cycle of neediness and superficial connection that never truly satisfies.

    Transforming Loneliness into Solitude

Embracing the Feeling: Instead of running from loneliness, mindfulness teachers like Thich Nhat Hanh suggest turning toward it with tenderness, breathing into the tension, and acknowledging it as a wounded part of oneself that needs care. [1, 2]
    Solitude (
Viveka) vs. Isolation: Buddhism draws a sharp line between painful loneliness and productive solitude. Cultivating inner peace allows you to be at ease in your own company rather than relying on distractions. [1]
Cultivating Inner Refuge: As noted by teachers like Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, you can treat your own awareness, compassion, and wisdom as inner "best friends".

    Practices for Healing

Loving-Kindness (Metta): Actively generating goodwill toward yourself and all beings breaks down the mental barrier of self-centered isolation.

Mindful Presence: Observing the feeling of loneliness with equanimity—watching it arise and pass away without judgment—reduces its power over your mind.

Deep Connection: Moving past pseudo-connections on screens requires careful listening, vulnerability, and genuine engagement with others.

CHRISTOPHER LIAM ROSE TALKS ABOUT #CLRM - BIRTH LIFE DEATH REBIRTH (CLRMBLDR)

    BIRTH LIFE DEATH REBIRTH

In Buddhism, birth, life, death, and rebirth form an endless, repeating cycle called samsara.

    The Core Cycle (Samsara)

Birth: Sentient beings enter the world, shaped by past actions and ignoring spiritual truth.

Life: Existence filled with both joy and suffering (dukkha), driven by craving, desire, and ignorance.

Death: The physical end of a body, which is not an absolute end or annihilation, but a moment of transition.

Rebirth: The continuation of consciousness (a stream of energy or experience) into a new form or realm, governed by karma (intentional action)

    E21 - #CLRM - THE SPIRITUAL REPENTANCE LIFE (CLRMTSRL)

CHRISTOPHER LIAM ROSE TALKS ABOUT #CLRM - THE SPIRITUAL REPENTANCE LIFE (CLRMTSRL)

    THE SPIRITUAL REPENTANCE LIFE

The spiritual aspect of a repentant life is the ongoing process of turning away from what separates you from God, truth, love and your deepest spiritual values, and turning towards a transformed way of living.

    1. Turning back to God

Repentance begins with returning to God—reorienting your heart, thoughts and actions toward God rather than remaining trapped in wrongdoing, pride or self-centredness.

    2. Acknowledging the truth

Repentance requires honesty with yourself. You recognise mistakes, harmful behaviour, unhealthy patterns and areas where you have fallen short without hiding or making excuses.

    3. Genuine remorse

Spiritual repentance involves contrition—being sincerely sorry for wrongdoing and recognising its impact on yourself, God and other people.

    4. Transformation of the heart

Repentance is more than saying “I am sorry.” It involves an inner transformation: developing greater humility, compassion, patience, wisdom, love and self-control.

    5. Changing direction

The spiritual meaning of repentance is often expressed as turning around. You leave behind destructive ways and deliberately move toward a life consistent with your values and faith.

    6. Seeking forgiveness

In a Christian understanding, repentance is closely connected with seeking God's forgiveness and mercy. It involves trusting that reconciliation with God is possible rather than remaining permanently imprisoned by guilt.

    7. Making amends

Where possible and appropriate, repentance includes repairing harm—apologising, taking responsibility, restoring what can be restored and changing behaviour.

    8. Humility

Repentance teaches that we do not have everything right. It develops humility, openness to correction and willingness to learn.

    9. Letting go of the past

A repentant life does not mean continually punishing yourself for previous mistakes. It means learning from them and allowing forgiveness, grace and transformation to create a different future.

    10. Developing spiritual awareness

Repentance can make you more attentive to your thoughts, motives, words and actions. You become more aware of what leads you toward love and what leads you away from it.

    11. Living differently

The evidence of repentance is ultimately found in how you live: how you treat people, respond to suffering, handle power, use your resources, speak to others and make decisions.

    12. Continuous spiritual growth

A repentant life is not necessarily a single event. It can become a lifelong spiritual practice of reflection, correction, forgiveness and renewal.
