    Genesis 27:1 - 28:22

    - Isaac, old and blind, intends to bless Esau, but Rebekah overhears and helps Jacob deceive him by disguising Jacob as Esau to receive the blessing of prosperity and lordship over his brother.

    - Esau discovers the deception and plans to kill Jacob, so Rebekah urges Jacob to flee to her brother Laban; Isaac sends Jacob away with a blessing, and on the way Jacob dreams of a ladder to heaven with God's promise of land, descendants, and protection.

    John 5:19-47

    - Jesus explains his unity with the Father, stating the Son does only what the Father does, has authority to give life and judge, and that believing in him brings eternal life while rejecting him leads to judgment.
