Summary

You can't kill the dead! Like any good monster, the zombie has proven to be ever-evolving, monumentally mutable, and open to seemingly endless imaginative interpretations: the thralls of voodoo sorcerers, George Romero's living dead, societal symbols, dancing thrillers, viral victims, reanimated ramblers, video-gaming targets, post-apocalyptic permutations, shuffling sidekicks, literary mash-ups, the comedic, and, yes, even the romantic.

Evidently, we have an enduring hunger for this infinite onslaught of the ever-hungry dead. Hoards of readers and listeners are now devouring zombie fiction faster than armies of the undead could chow down their brains. It's a sick job, but somebody had to do it: explore the innumerable necrotic nightmares of the latest, greatest, most fervent devotion in the history of humankind and ferret out the best of new millenial zombie stories: Zombies: The Recent Dead.

mostly great

was entertaining from start to finish, but one or two of the stories frustrating and almost ill placed for a zombie book. the most impressive part is the creative and different takes on the zombie genre.

is it good ERM not really

Only a few of these stories are good. I found myself losing interest and zoning out on a large proportion of them. The performances were adequate to stellar Johnathan Davies knocks it out the park as usual but the boring stories really do hold a lot of the actors back. Don't waste money on it use a credit.

Not quite what I would have liked

I was quite pleased to see such a compendium on Audible and at a good price for 20 hours or so of listening. Especially looking forward to a good scare when out walking the dogs at night time, or driving during the darker hours - both times where I do my audio book listening.

The stories aren't bad, and they are well narrated. However the problem is that 90% of the authors seem so desperate to take an original twist on the whole zombie genre that it becomes a bit dull, and hardly ever, really, hardly ever scary. All I wanted was some proper horror stories based on the zombie genre.

I've since bought Domain of the Dead and the Walking Dead audio books - they seem much more my cup of tea.

By all means give it a crack, just don't expect any scares :(.
