I always enjoy Phillips Gregory books and this one was no exception. Well crafted and read.

According to my taste, this is the worst book by Philippa Gregory that I've ever "read". I have to add that she is my all time favourite author and I almost exclusively read historical fiction. If not, I read fact books.
So if you're not that particular in what you read, you might like it. But if you want to listen to it cuss you like her other books and becouse it's labeled as historical fiction, I would tell you not to buy it. Unless you count the 90's as being historical. I have read "the little house" (I think it's called) by the same author that is similarly labelled as historical fiction but to me are not. But I didn't mind that one due to that the story spoke to me due to personal experiences.
Being a queer woman I thought this book would be interesting even though I kinda realised it wasn't historical. But on the contrary it offended me. I would put a BIG warning out there to anyone who's transexual due to really offensive wording at the end. I know it's the thoughts of the character and not the author. Butt it just made me think that the motives and thoughts of the character who was thought of thus, by the main character, was not investigated and included. Even though this caracter's thoughts and feelings had been described earlier in the book. I also think that it was pretty obvious what was going to happen in the end pretty early on in the book and even though some things I didn't guess on, the main conclusion was easy to figure out.

I really loved this book. And I wish that I was good with words so as to give the book the credit it deserves.
I've read quite a lot of Phillipa Gregory's historical novels. Zelda's Cut was a real surprise.
The insight into the mind of a writer and the accompanying personal details that come with dreams and relationships that we all individually encounter in Life are richly illustrated.
My only uncertainty is the ending.
Her resolution seemed to be rather shallow.
Could she really simply accept that Life style?

I usually love Philippa G books but this one didn’t really hit the spot.
I found the story as a whole irritating and the ending depressing.
The narration was done well - but the accents were so RP it was too much for me.

So disappointed in Philippa Gregory, she usually writes interesting well researched novels. I’d suggest that this isn’t aimed at her usual readers. I very rarely don’t get to the end of a book but I couldn’t waste any more time on this nonsense.
