"Many authors do a disservice to their books by narrating their audio version instead of using a professional.. You are the exception! No voice actor could have done a better job of captivating me throughout the whole listening experience. Well done!" Danny Kao, San Francisco, California, USA
What if everything you know about Jack the Ripper is wrong?
Since 1888, hundreds of suspects have been proposed for the Jack the Ripper murders–from Polish barbers to Freemason conspiracies.
But what if investigators have been asking the wrong question?
Instead of asking ‘Who was Jack the Ripper?’, Richard Walker asked ‘How were these murders actually committed?’
What he discovered is truly shocking.
Richard Walker grew up in Liverpool before a life of adventure—from yachting across the Pacific to 30 years on stage—eventually joining the prestigious London Walks tour company to become a passionate Jack the Ripper tour guide with over 18 years’ experience. He leads intimate tours from Whitechapel, blending theatrical storytelling and historical insight.

Walker writes like a documentary filmmaker who knows his stuff. He carefully takes apart over a century of stories made up by the media to focus on the real evidence. His experience as a Whitechapel tour guide gives him a great understanding of the area and how things worked back then. What makes this book so important for anyone interested in true crime or history is how it looks at the biases in the system. Walker shows how the Victorian police force, which was mostly men, and the sensationalist press messed up the original investigation. This led to assumptions that people have just accepted for years.
It’s a good reminder to think critically, using simple explanations instead of wild theories. If you like to look at sources carefully and understand history well, this book is the best modern take on the subject.
Walker does something truly unique in true crime: he shifts the focus from the elusive killer to the society that enabled these awful events. He delves into the inquests, timelines, and press archives to reveal how the “Brand” of Jack the Ripper was created by a Victorian media outlet eager for attention. But what’s even more important is that he gives a voice to the women whose lives were tragically taken.
The ultimate reality check on a 130-year-old Myth
