Story
There are a few things you should know about my brother’s roommate. Wolfie Cox is complicated, and incredibly sexy. Unfortunately, he has an impressive stick lodged so far up his ass, he’s about as emotionally available as a chinchilla. Actually, that might be an insult to the chinchilla community. So, naturally, I want to ride him like a bicycle.

Lexington Dane was my brother’s best friend growing up. We did everything together. He taught me how to throw a punch, how to change a tire...and he taught me how to kiss. I fell hard and fast, and gave him all my firsts. I promised I’d wait for him.... But I’m done waiting, because he went off to college and never came back. He took his fancy business degree and moved to New York City, where he promptly became a real estate mogul - turning every penthouse and apartment project he touched into gold.

I’m not boyfriend material. If a trail of broken hearts and a piss-poor record of failed relationships have taught me anything, it’s this. My buddies are happy to give me shit about my latest breakup from here to next Sunday. Thanks, but I’d rather have a root canal. And a vasectomy. At the same time. Relief comes in an unlikely package - the gorgeous and feisty Maren. She just so happens to be my best friend’s sister, so that’s not awkward at all.

I’d like to preface this by saying it was never my intention to ever get involved in a workplace romance, let alone get involved with the most surly, agitating, and pompous man I’ve ever met who just so happens to be my new friend’s brother. My intentions were to show students how English and reading books could actually be fun and make a new life for myself in the suburbs of Chicago.

Dear Mr. Vega: I felt it necessary to follow up on today’s meeting, since we weren’t able to speak candidly in front of your son. I was shocked to discover that you are Ryder’s dad. I think it would be best if we just pretend that we met in person for the first time today. Your son is a very bright (flirtatious and talkative) student and since his education is a top priority for both of us, I hope I can count on you to respectfully refrain from grinning at me, using that sexy tone of voice, and undressing me with your annoyingly beautiful brown eyes....

I don’t want you. You mean nothing to me. I never loved you. I turned my words into swords. And I cut her down. Shoved the blade in and watched her fall. I said I’d never hurt her and I did. My love story all started with a letter. Only it wasn’t from the man I’d eventually fall in love with. It was from his daughter. A sweet little girl named Birdie Maxwell who’d written to the magazine that I worked for. You see, once a year my employer fulfilled a few wishes for readers. Only that column didn’t start up again for months. So I fulfilled some of her wishes myself. It was harmless…so I thought. Until one day I took things too far. While anonymously granting yet another of Birdie’s wishes, I got a look at her father.

Let me list the reasons why dating the sexy, charming pro hockey star is a bad idea: He’s one of my closest friends. All our friends are friends. The wounds I’ve got from past relationships go deep. And so do his. We’re both devoutly single - it’s just safer for the heart that way. But there’s no reason not to bid on the gorgeous, clever athlete at the charity auction this weekend. Summary
It all starts as pretend.
To everyone else, Hunter is the most powerful man in New York. Respected by his associates and feared by his competitors.
But to me? He's just my best friend. my sexy-as-hell best friend.
It was easy to agree to help him fake a romance.
After all, who knows him like I do? Convincing his tight-knit family takes a little more: An unexpected kiss that makes my skin sizzle, my knees go weak.
Before I know it, our banter turns to flirting and Hunter's hell-bent on charming me. On our first night together, we barely keep our hands off each other. Our second night together is intense and alluring and it lights me on fire.
How can I pretend I'm not falling for real?

I loved it
You're The One was my first Layla Hagen novel and I loved it. This novel combined friend to lovers and fake marriage tropes into one sweet, feel good romance that had me hooked from beginning to end. I loved Hunter and Josie and enjoyed seeing them move from friends to so much more. Their flirty banter, intense chemistry and steamy scenes had me hooked and I loved their interactions with each other and their family. This was a fantastic story and I would highly recommend it to all lovers of contemporary romance. I listened to the audiobook version of this novel which was narrated by Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell. These two were perfect choices for these characters infusing personality and emotion into their voices and bringing the story to life. I loved their voices and enjoyed listening to them narrate this novel.

5 stars!
I’ve been a fan of Layla Hagen’s for a while now, so it’s no surprise when I say I LOVED THIS BOOK! Her writing flows smoothly, making this an easy read. While Josie is highly relatable, Hunter made me swoon! Their chemistry was off the charts and I was rooting for them from the start. This book is light, steamy, and VERY entertaining! I can’t wait to see what this author comes up with next! Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell were perfect for their roles and made the story come alive. You’re the One is a friends-to-lovers, marriage-of-convenience contemporary romance written in dual first-person POV and performed in dual narration. It’s a standalone that ends with a HEA. No cliffhanger, no cheating. I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

A great start to a new series.
What do you do when your best friend of 15 years can't get his US visa renewed? You do him a favour and marry him of course! In my opinion, there is nothing quite like a friends to lovers storyline and in You're The One, Layla Hagan certainly delivers. Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell as Hunter and Josie, guide us through the journey to their HEA beautifully. Along the way we meet, what I hope are, future main characters in Hunter's cousins.

Sweet & Sexy Love Story
You’re the One is my first book by Layla Hagen and it definitely will not be the last. This is a best friends to lovers story and this author had me hooked right from the beginning with her storytelling. I thoroughly enjoyed Hunter and Josie’s friendship, his immediate trust in that friendship when he went to her for advice with his problem. I loved that Josie is a strong, independent career woman who can take care of herself and does not come across as a damsel in distress; in fact, Josie is the one that is there for Hunter in his time of need. Hunter is swoon worthy especially when he continuously springs surprises on Josie just to make her happy and makes her heart melt. The dialogue in this book flowed seamlessly and I loved seeing their interaction with each other and their friends and family. I love audiobooks narrated by Joe Arden and this was my first time listening to Maxine Mitchell. I loved their performance and they really brought the characters and this story to life for me. I could feel all the different range of emotions Hunter and Josie experienced along with those of the secondary characters. I smiled and laughed as I devoured this book. These two narrators have helped me discover another author for me to read and I’m really looking forward to the next book in this series.

Sexy Best friends to lovers
I love a good best friends to lovers story and that is what this was. Hunter and Josie have an awesome relationship. They have been best friends for 15 years. Now Hunter neeeds Josie and there is nothing she won’t do for him, even marry him but this marriage of convenience quickly takes a turn. This is a steamy story with some great narrators in Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell’s. **i did receive a free copy of this audio book in exchange for a fair and honest review **

Amazing Story!
Love love loved Josie and Hunters story! Josie and Hunter have been best friends forever, Hunter is a British citizen living and working in the USA and he has been notified that his Visa was not being renewed. I fell in love with Hunter and Josie before this, their personality shined through their characters their chemistry was off the charts even though neither of them wanted to ruin their friendship by crossing those lines. I loved following their journey as they discover more about each other and their true feelings for each other that go beyond “fake”. Find out if they acknowledge their true feelings before it is too late. You also meet and the rest of the family. I am looking forward to the next book in this series! I loved the narration, well paced and well performed.

Good start and then it just fell flat
I was really invested in this story because I love interconnected series and I know how popular this author is. The story started very strong until at about 80% it sort of fizzled. I have no idea why, but the pace of the story hit a bump and I just was taken aback, Of course things worked out at the end but it's hard to stay excited and want to invest in the rest of the series when a book starts out strong and then it didn't reach its full potential. The narration by both Joe Arden & Maxine Mitchell was FANTASTIC!!

Ok
I am normally the type of person who likes most books I read and I’m not saying this wasn’t good, it started off good at least and then by the end it kinda dragged and got boring. I wanted it to hurry up. I’m not a big fan of Maxine Mitchell, every book that I’ve listened to with her in it, I feel like she sounds constantly panicked. I don’t think I’m going to listen to the rest of the series at this point. Maybe I’ll try it down the road.

Cute, sexy story of friends who marry and then fall in love
This is book 1 of a new series so there are a number of characters that are barely introduced. The heroine, attorney Josie has a number of siblings and hero Hunter, a wealthy real estate magnate and philanthropist has several cousins so there are plenty potentials for future books before any new characters come on the scene with friends and family. The plot concerns British born Hunter’s need to either take a chance of being approved of a green card quickly or marrying his American born best friend. Not even a mention of Dreamer laws but there was an insensitive, abrasive immigration investigator and a really horrible Scrooge of a partner at the law firm Josie worked at. The drama drags some and slows the pace towards the end and the epilogue was a lot of sunshine and rainbows chatter that did nothing for this story or the next but the rest was pretty predictable and pleasant. The narrator are pros who frequently work together so their narration had a rhythm. This is a good candidate for the escape package.

Can't wait for more
Layla Hagen once again starts of a new series with a bang. Another great family that listeners are going to instantly fall in love with. Best friends for 15 years Hunter and Josie have hidden their real feelings for each other and it is not until Hunter's green card comes into play that the chemistry flys of the page. But can a marriage based on convenience get past the immigration board? From the very first chapter to the last page in the book I was captivated with the interactions between Hunter and Josie. Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell brought the characters to life.. With a perfect combination of friends to lovers romance and a story filled with laughter and love this is only the beginning. Cannot wait for more in the series!!

If you don't mind a loose thread, it's great.
Cute, with a glaring flaw. The books ends without mention of the whole reason they had to get married in the first place. What happened with their case? Will it be addressed in a later book? Did the author just sort of forget? It's a little frustrating. Added, there did not appear to much research done on the legalities of immigration; my husband is a Brit and we know more about the process from a quick visit to the USCIS website than the storyline in the book (or maybe the author just got it wrong and didn't do her homework?)... Otherwise, it is a cute story though. I'll probably give the second book a try before I make up my mind about the series.
