Summary

Marnie is stuck.

Stuck working alone in her London flat, stuck battling the long afternoons and a life that increasingly feels like it's passing her by.

Michael is coming undone.

Reeling from his wife's departure, increasingly reclusive, taking himself on long, solitary walks across the moors and fells.

When a persistent mutual friend and some very English weather conspire to bring them together, Marnie and Michael suddenly find themselves alone on the most epic of walks and on the precipice of a new friendship.

But can it survive the journey?

A new love story by beloved bestseller David Nicholls, You Are Here is a novel of first encounters, second chances, and finding the way home.

Editorial Review

When the journey is the destination
In classic David Nicholls style, his new sure-to-be-bestseller deftly builds rich character and connection through conversation, an approach that's absolutely perfect for audio. Performed in alternating-ish chapters by the amazing Lydia Leonard and Lee Ingleby, You Are Here provides the listener a real fly-on-the-wall effect (or perhaps in this case, fly-on-the-rucksack). What differentiates this one from some of Nicholls's other hits, and especially One Day, is the vivid, reeling moment of midlife loneliness that the two protagonists, Marnie and Michael, find themselves mired in – a state remarkably relatable to anyone of a certain age, even the most touched out, partnered parent. Organized by geography, the stretch of land ahead paves the way for the mental meanderings that come with walking. You come to know – and care for – these characters deeply, and I daresay you'll be as sorry as I was when these two finally reach their destination. —Emily C., Audible Editor

Enjoyable humour, good storyline

This was the first book I have listened to by this author and I enjoyed the style of writing. Having done the Coast to Coast walk myself many years ago, I really enjoyed the references to the different places the characters visited as they travelled along their walk. I liked that there were 2 narrators, but now and again they didn't change their voices for the different character parts and so it was difficult to recognise which character was actually speaking, so I removed a star because of this.

Enjoyable read

Another brilliant book by David Nicholls, gentle, engaging and funny, following a path that is familiar to life situations we have all experienced.

Eagle eyed view of middle aged romance

When you've thought about relationships and experienced enough of them that triple guessing yourself is second nature, only immersing yourself in nature may be able to get you to come out of your head enough to experience something that deserves the name of love in an approaching natural way. The two main characters are fun to get to know, and easy to root for. The peripheral characters are predictable enough to not cause one to dwell unduly and yet interesting enough to add something (notably Marnie's godson). A great book to listen to during a changeable English summer.

Intelligent romance novel

Loved the little detailed, clever extra "thoughts" each character had , made it much more interesting.

Loved this book! So unexpected

I listen to ALOT of audible books and I loved this book from start to finish. The characters are brilliant, it's well read and it really grows on you. I didn't want it to end. It was so much more then I was expecting!

Great story and narration

Knowing the walks they did, some of the walking times were unrealistic so put me off a bit but still enjoyable
