'My name is Natalie Heller Mills, and I was perfect at being alive…'

Natalie lives a traditional lifestyle – and her followers are sick with envy. Her charming farmhouse on her working ranch is artfully cluttered, her husband is a handsome cowboy, her homemade sourdough boules are each more beautiful than the last. So what if there are nannies and producers and industrial-grade ovens behind the scenes? What her followers don’t know won’t hurt them.

Then, one morning, Natalie wakes up in a strange, horrible version of reality. Her home, her husband, her children—they’re all familiar, but something’s off. Is this a hoax? A reality show? A test from God? Natalie knows just two things for sure: this isn't her perfect life, and she must escape, by any means possible.

As darkly funny as it is shocking and gripping, Yesteryear is an electrifying examination of tradition, fame, faith and the grand performance of womanhood, from a thrilling new talent in fiction.

I was interested by the premise and had no idea where it would go. And wow, either I have a small imagination or I wasn’t paying attention but I couldn’t have imagined it to end the way it did, I only caught on at the very end.

I was initially a bit confused by the time jumps but there is a structure to it, to reveal information at the right time.

Rebecca Lowman’s performance achieved all the nuances of the narrator’s psychology, soft, harsh, sympathetic, infuriating. Although I’m not a bookworm, this is probably the best book I’ve listened to/read in a while.

Amazing

I was unsure if this would be for me as I find Trad Wife culture really toxic. It was such a good read, showed both sides of the coin and at times I felt sorry for Natalie. The book has left me with a lot to think about which is always a sign of a good book.

Really interesting read.

I’ve just finished listening to Yesteryear , and I really enjoyed it. It kept me engaged throughout, especially with the mystery of how she ended up in the 1800s—I was constantly guessing what had happened. The mix of past and present was intriguing, and the story unfolded in a way that kept my attention right to the end. A really easy, entertaining listen
