Summary

DI Sally Parker has a serial killer on her patch. One thing that sets this killer apart from the others she's hunted before: his willingness to leave DNA at each of the crime scenes. It's up to Sally and her partner, DS Jack Blackman, to find out why before the body count rises to double figures.

While Sally is engrossed in the investigation, her ex-husband, Darryl, pays a surprise visit to her new home. His actions not only threaten Sally's newfound confidence, but they also force the DCI to give Sally an ultimatum concerning the case. Can Sally overcome all the obstacles fate has placed in her path and arrest the brazen killer?

Disappointing and dreadfully narrated.

The story was nothing special but the narration was bizarre. She sounded like a 9 year old taking elocution lessons and sounding out every syllable as the syntax was so abnormal. Is the narrator American doing a poor interpretation of an English accent? Dick Van Dyke did better in Mary Poppins !

Painful

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The worst narrated audio book I have ever had the displeasure of listening to. Made the story sound as if it had been written by a 5 year old. I was constantly exclaiming at how dreadful it was.

Would you ever listen to anything by M. A. Comley again?

No.

Who might you have cast as narrator instead of Charlotte Anne Dore?

Anyone who can read fluently!

Disappointing

What would have made Wrong Place better?

Started listening to this book and cannot continue due to the poor performance by the narrator. Over pronouncing words, no feeling in any of the story so far. It is supposed to be a crime book which need to have some rawness about it but because of the narrator you cannot tell.

Would you ever listen to anything by M. A. Comley again?

Yes as long as its not this narrator

How could the performance have been better?

Re record this book with a different narrator. If I was to say Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins I am sure most people will understand where I am coming from.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I dont know. I've listened to Comley before and utterly disappointed in this narrator being so crap I cannot continue. A waste of a credit

Any additional comments?

Sack the narrator

Tolerably good plot - ruinous narration

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not to an American or anyone familiar with UK dialects. The narrator is low, painlessly "correct" and reads as though she was on a stage. It made a plausible plot dire on the ears.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked D.I. Sally Parker because I know it can be tough for a female officer in a police force. Then men don't get much of a run as characters but there is sufficient to add flesh to skeletons.

Would you be willing to try another one of Charlotte Anne Dore’s performances?

NO

Was Wrong Place worth the listening time?

Yes and no.

Any additional comments?

I was strongly tempted to return this one and after 3 starts I managed to get into the plot. As I am a supporter of police procedurals, the advertising wasn't misleading but books written by women should not always be read by the sisterhood. I'm sorry that Charlotte Ann Dore should try again in a few years when her voice loses the schoolgirl pitch. Alternatively she could practice after whisky.

Terrible narration

I really couldn’t get past the first couple of chapters. The narrator has to be the worst I’ve encountered

Story was good

Narrator was terrible, talking was very wooden and mechanical. Pity as the story was good.

Maybe I’m too used to Angela Marston 🙈

The story is okay, I guess, but the interactions between characters is strained, cringey and a little odd. Theres too many over reactions to minor inconveniences.
The narration doesn’t help. Maybe if the narrator had less of a monotone then it wouldn’t be as hard to listen to.
Glad I didn’t spend a credit on this.

Very enjoyable

Really enjoying this audio and contrary to other reviews I think the narration is really good, so glad I’ve discovered this author

A reasonable story but stilted narration

The story was good, with enough detail to keep me interested. The narration was poor. It sounded like it was spliced together, like older computer voices.

Worst narration ever

Good story and though I have never commented on a narrator before this one was so poor that I am skipping book 2 as it is narrated by same person and going to number 3 in the series with a new narrator
