Summary

Can two men keep a childhood promise for marital bliss?

Wyatt is overwhelmed after his grandfather dies, leaving him to take over the cattle ranch. The Triple J is floundering, vandals are targeting him, and his first and only love is finally within reach - and still holding a grudge. Wyatt has wanted to marry Diego since they made a childhood pact, but Diego isn't back for their second chance.

When a funeral calls Diego back to Texas, he comes face-to-face with the cowboy who broke his heart. Resentment has burned inside him for years, but his anger wavers as he realizes just how much Wyatt is struggling to keep his head above water. The man he once loved is lonely and burdened, and Diego feels compelled to help him rediscover the strong, capable rancher he knows him to be.

Hostility gives way to passion, then friendship as they fall into a rhythm of work and sex. Wyatt has renewed hope he might wrangle the man he wants to be his groom. But Diego has a life waiting for him 1,000 miles away, and love may not be enough to prevent history from repeating itself.

Wrangling a Groom is book two of the Marital Bliss series, but it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. It's approximately 85,000 words.

Second Chance Of Love.

I loved this audiobook!
Second chance love is one of my favourite tropes. If it's one of yours too, then I am more than happy to recommend this story.
Wyatt Baker has done a brilliant job of bringing these characters to life.
Wyatt and Diego make a marriage pact when they are children. Young love is torn apart when Wyatt's Grandfather discovers them together and gives Wyatt an ultimatum.
Full of anger and resentment,Diego leaves, moves to Miami and builds a life for himself.
They are thrown back together when Wyatt's Grandfather dies and Diego comes back to pay his respects.
All of their emotions come to a head and they clash in an angry, hot and most intimate way.
With so much emotional damage between them and their separate lives can they ever come back together?

Wrangling the Groom is book 2 in the series and I guess it could be read as a standalone, although Caleb and Julian from the first book feature in this book quite a bit, so for maximum enjoyment you might want to read Surprise Groom first.

Diego is back in Texas for Wyatt's grandfather's funeral for the first time in 6 years after he issued an ultimatum to Wyatt, and asked him to choose between him or the ranch that's been in Wyatt's family for generations. Cornered between a rock and a hard place, Wyatt chooses the ranch and Diego is still holding a grudge over this, even if he never gave Wyatt the chance to explain the reason for his decision. *kicks Diego* Now, that Diego is back, Wyatt wants them to get back together, but of course, it won't be that easy.

I really liked Wyatt, he was sweet, hardworking, he wore his heart on his sleeve and was an all-around good guy. My one problem with him was that he was a pushover for Diego and that made me want to shake some sense into him more than a few times. Diego was another matter altogether. Even after acknowledging to himself that Wyatt wasn't the only one who messed up 6 years before, he kept Wyatt at arm's length and treated him like dirt. IMHO, he really didn't deserve Wyatt's love and frankly, Diego's hot and cold routine got old very fast. Grrr, I can't tell you how many times I needed to stop the audiobook because he made me angry at something he did. Were they hot together? Yes, they were. Unfortunately, my enjoyment of the story and my overall investment in wanting Wyatt and Diego together got marred by the way Diego behaved and how much he didn't deserve Wyatt until almost the end of the book and by then it was too little too late for me. Even the grand gesture fell flat for me.

It was great catching up with Caleb and Julian and I really liked seeing how Wyatt's ranch worked and how his plans to start a destiny wedding business went along. Roberto and Wyatt's family were lovely and a great addition to the story, too.

All in all, this was a good audiobook. Wyatt Baker did a fantastic job bringing the story and the characters to life and the story was pretty good, even if Diego made me angry at almost every scene he was on. LOL Anyway, even if I wasn't truly invested in Wyatt and Diego's HEA, I still have no trouble recommending it. DJ Jamison's writing is great as always and hey, who knows? Perhaps you'll like Diego better than I did. ;)

A lovely second chance romance

This is book 2 in the Marital Bliss series, but you don’t need to have listened to book 1.

Wrangling a Groom is a lovely slow-burn, second chance romance with plenty of angst resulting from past actions with some hot, passionate, angry sex scenes. There’s a lot the two main characters, Diego and Wyatt, have to sort out and it takes time for them to work through their past, to forgive, and move forward. My heart hurt for these guys and what they’d been through.

Caleb and Justin from book 1 have a cameo chapter or two, making me want to go back and listen to their story.

Wyatt Baker provides clear and passionate narration, making it an enjoyable listen. I like the author’s writing style and the way the story is structured.

as good as the ebook

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening

Cute cowboys and steamy scenes

This book is the second in a series, but can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone. I instantly fell in love with the characters and was desperate for Wyatt and Diego to find their way back to each other.

Their story was equal parts steamy and sweet and included some fantastic angry sex.

I loved the dynamic between the main characters and found myself getting really invested in the lives of the side characters. I can't wait for the next installment in the series.

Hot and heavy times

This is a second chance romance that starts out with a lot of hurt and anger. I really loved how the two main characters put these to good use with hot and heavy times. Those scenes are so well written with lots of passion which eventually turns back to love.

Wyatt is the more sympathetic of the two at the start. He's had a trying time of family politics and trying to keep a ranch going, and wears his heart on his sleeve. Diego takes a longer time to forgive past mistakes and to realise he made mistakes too. I love the underlying theme of a bond made as small boys eventually coming true.

I always find it takes a while to ease into Wyatt Baker's narration. It is different to lots of others, but not in a bad way. He is very clear and pacing is excellent, but sometimes his voice is quite monotone. Nevertheless, I greatly enjoyed his interpretations of the different characters.

Second chance with first love!

Diego and Wyatt, childhood friends, then sweethearts made promises that could not be kept. Other outside forces like family, ranch life also interfered, causing both young men to separate.
Fast forward a few years later, both men meet again. This time, they're older and ready to work on getting back together.
A good story, with engaging characters, some explosive intimate scenes between the MCs (phew!).

Wyatt Baker does a very good job with the narration, especially the pacing and characterisations. Very enjoyable performance :)

Jamison at her best!

I think this is the best DJ Jamison book I’ve read so far! I’m not usually one for westerns but this just did it for me. I loved the second chance, the dynamic between the two characters, the family and supporting cast, all of it was just incredible. Wyatt Baker did a wonderful job narrating too, and did some really gruff sexy cowboy voices that fit perfectly.

Gross and rapey

I listened to the first hour and a half of this book thinking it was a pretty middle-of-the-road second chance romance novel. Boy, was I wrong. Second chance romance novels generally don't culminate in the "wronged" partner actually, literally sexually assaulting the one who wronged him. The first sex scene is so disgusting, so non-consensual (despite nominal consent being given, because Diego isn't actually supposed to be a villain), I stopped listening and I'm about to go to Amazon to request they delete this trash from my library.

First of all, it was clear that Wyatt (the--for lack of a better word--victim) was in a huge amount of pain throughout. Words were used such as "forced," "shoved," "rammed," and Wyatt "screamed so loud Diego was surprised Rosie didn't come out to see who was getting murdered." This is not how gay men have sex, except actual sexual predators. The decision of who tops and who bottoms is not, and should not be, based on getting revenge on someone. That's how straight people think gay sex works. Honestly, Diego didn't even have THAT much of a reason to be upset with Wyatt, further making this scene absolutely horrific. Yeah, they were together when they were teenagers and they broke up. That certainly doesn't deserve--THIS.

What makes it worse is that I'm sure by the end, the two will overcome whatever obstacles they think are in their way and end up together. And I guess that's supposed to be a happy ending. "Sorry about that time I raped you, now I realize that I really love you!" There's your HEA for you.

The narrator wasn't great, the writing wasn't great, and this scene was so offensive I refuse to continue, because if Wyatt were smart, he would have immediately thrown Diego out and never spoken to him again, and counted his blessings he was able to get out of that relationship when he did. Absolutely disgusting.

I enjoyed the story, both as a book and as an audiobook. The narrator is new to me. I really like his voice; perfect for Wyatt and Diego.

Series departure

I'm not expecting my world to be set on fire by the second book in any triology, but this one felt like it was starting a whole new series. After book one pulls the boy out of the Miami nightclub to put him on a wedding destination island in Maine, I was not anticipating the next story would go Texas ranch hand. There's lots of pride and passion as our MCs ride towards their HEA. I appreciated that this one addressed how there's still homophobia in rural America, but then it turned out not to be exactly what they thought. This would have made more sense to me as a stand-alone book as the connection to the series seemed thin. But the romance stands and whenever two gay guys settle down, you gotta smile.

Second Chance Love at a Ranch

This is the second book in the Marital Bliss series – a series with overlapping characters and theme of weddings and wedding venues. I read the first book in the series on Kindle and loved it, and was eager to for the next book, especially when I realized it was going to feature Diego.

Diego was first introduced as the caustic bartender that Julian was friends within book one. In “Wrangling a Groom,” we finally get the background on what caused Diego to be so biting and suspicious: six years ago his heart was broken by his best friend and first love, Wyatt. It’s a hurt Diego’s carried with him despite Wyatt’s attempts to reach out and make amends. It’s not until a funeral brings Diego back to Wyatt’s family ranch that any type of reconciliation can happen.

The emotions between Diego and Wyatt are intense and come crashing down like waves against rocks – strong, overwhelming, and undeniable. Six years may have passed, but Diego and Wyatt still love and lust after each other. This passion and the complications that result of Diego and Wyatt trying to come to terms with what it means and how to move forward, makes the book enthralling. I really enjoyed watching how these two men figure out their issues which made the journey to their happy ever after very satisfying. Plus, the sex scenes were hot and delicious.

Wyatt Baker narrates the audiobook and does a fantastic job. The characters were well voiced and were distinct and consistent which made it very easy for me to follow along in the story without having to refer back to the book. Overall, a very well done production.

enjoyed it

Would I listen to it again: yes
Did the story keep me engaged: yes
Was I invested in the characters: yes

Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters and a well written and entertaining second chance romance plot.

Narrator comment: Wyatt Baker suits these characters, I had no problem distinguishing who was speaking and his intonations and inflections work well to bring the characters to life.
