Summary

Ruby Matthews has a plan - 12 jobs in 12 months, until she finds the one of her dreams....

After an unexpected redundancy, Ruby begins to question her priorities. Inspired by a quote from Kahlil Gibran about loving your work, she launches her mission to find the ideal job.

Her year of gainful (and sometimes painful!) employment includes nannying for clients in the South of France, dealing with embarrassing ailments in a Harley Street clinic, waiting tables in a buzzy Soho cafe and meeting the celebs of years gone by in a home for retired actors. And even though love is no longer top of her list, relationships seem to start happening along the way, which sees her handing out some P45s of her own!

But will any of the jobs, or the men she meets, see her dreams come true? Or will Ruby just end up back where she started?

Working Title

This is an easy listen with likeable characters and the villian. The concept of 12 jobs in 12 months should be adopted by more people and then the right people would be in the right jobs. Anyway it was well narrated. The accents were believable if not totally accurate and thankfully not annoying as on other books I have had to leave because they were so bad. Sit back and smile as you listen to this book.

It's ok

Not the best story, although entertaining at points. The narrator wasn't my cup of tea, with some dodgy accents, but she was at least clear.

Story ok performance annoying voice just not good to listen to. Story is ok

Narrators voice is just not good. Goes up at the end of every sentence. Also she’d never have gone for George. Idea of the different jobs was novel

Really good story. Easy listening.

Great story for when you are on a drive.

It's the story of a young woman who, after being made redundant, decides to try out 12 different jobs over 12 months.

The story is really good and well paced, the only downside is accellerates and ends rapidly, it would have been nice to draw all parts to a close over an additional chapter or two. I won't say how as that would spoil the story.

All in all, excellent.

Enjoyable

Enjoyable although somewhat predictable. I enjoyed the jobs Ruby had and her escapades. I also liked the narrator. Makes it all sound very jolly and happy.

The narrator is back and the story doesn’t disappoint

My first Nicola May audiobook was The Corner Shop in CockleBerry Bay. I loved it, loved the narrators voices/accents. The sequel had a narrator change and it was not the same. It made me realise how important narration is in an audiobook. Not giving up in Nicola May I listened to ‘Working it out’. Penny the narrator was back and I loved all the characters. I loved the 12m 12 job roles, Ruby was wonderful and I felt it was very true to life. A definite to listen to again
