Meet William Woodside: He’s enamored by seeing small animals like cats and dogs suffering terribly at his hands. He loses his job as a security guard because he skins dogs alive and is caught and jailed. When he’s released, he has no job so after panhandling and working some day labor gigs, he begins robbing banks.
It’s not long before he graduates from killing domesticated animals to people. The work’s protagonist, Tom Sayers, is a tough sheriff’s detective with demons of his own. A recovering gambling addict, Sayers will stop at nothing to have William Woodside arrested and brought to justice.
After laying a web of death and destruction through several Ohio cities and into the Deep South, Woodside returns home from his murdering and bank robbery spree and Sayers has the match of his career on his hands.
