About this listen

When Nat Carver takes home a strange and smelly mutt, his life is changed forever. Woody is the last of his kind, a Wolven, thought only to exist in legend.

Then Nat discovers Woody has escaped from a top-secret science project - and some very bad guys want him back....

A fast, funny, howlingly hairy adventure featuring a very odd dog, from début author Di Toft.

My two boys (aged 7 and 9) really enjoyed this book. They had never come across the concept of a Wolven before (wolf that can turn into a human), rather than the more traditional Werewolf (human to wolf) and enjoyed finding out about them.

There were some rather gory / unsettling parts to this book as it deals with a secret Government project (PLOT SPOILER) to produce super human soldiers. The early tests did not go well, and the book describes the results in detail. There are various deaths, kidnapping, night-time terrors and chases, which firmly place this book as in the age 7+ category. That said, my 7 year old never found it scary enough to turn off - there is a definite sense of "good" & "evil" at work here, which suggests that it will all be alright in the end. And it is ... eventually!

As an adult, my only gripe is that the narrator was pleasant enough to listen too, but not hugely talented when it comes to different accents and voices.
