Clever, tense, edge of seat thriller
This was a really excellent listen, if you like clever well plotted thrillers and don't mind some gory detail.
The key figure, DI Caffrey is a well drawn maverick cop whose distinctive personality has been developed over several novels.
The plotting is really superb with some twists that are signalled well in advance and some that are a complete surprise. The characters are plausible and the writing is good.
As with previous books, there is a sinister sense of the bizarre and it has a slightly queasy strangeness at times, but this heightens the atmosphere. There are some unpleasant and slightly graphic scenes, so not a book for the squeamish (or to listen to over lunch).
The narrator is good with an excellent range of voices, all of which were convincing, including a five year old girl.
I found this utterly engrossing during a very dull week of work and was sorry to reach the end.

Chilling and suspenseful
This is Mo Hyder at her best and nobody does suspense and chills better. It is the seventh book in the Jack Cafferey series and in my opinion the best yet. I wasn't a big fan of Hyder's earlier books as I found them too horrific, maybe even gratuitous, and the plots less convoluted. I am so glad I persevered. Here, the plot is carefully told, twisting and meandering then drawing towards an unpredictable ending. I loved every minute. Fans of Jack Caffrey will love the further development of his own personal story. If you like psychological thrillers that are dark and disturbing then this is your book.

Probably the most menacing thriller I have read
Any additional comments?
First of all the narrator was excellent. The accents were all wonderful. The threatening tone was chillingly calm and cold. The story was intriguing - so many plots intertwining. I have not read Mo Hayder before but will certainly do so again. I have read many, many books of this genre but I truly think this was among the very best - certainly the most menacing.

Gripping
If you could sum up Wolf in three words, what would they be?
terrific audio
What did you like best about this story?
The story pulled you in with an enthralling twist, frustrating sub plots without being too predictable.
Have you listened to any of Jot Davies’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I havent listened to this narrator before and I enjoyed the quietness of his delivery. It suited the atmosphere and sombreness of the story.
Any additional comments?
If you are a fan of Mo Hayder and enjoy the Birdman Series, then this audio is for you.

Loved it.
Would you consider the audio edition of Wolf to be better than the print version?
I think an audio book adds a certain extra dimension to a book which I really enjoy, so yes.
What other book might you compare Wolf to, and why?
Its a detective story, I'd liken it to the Jo Nesbo books in style and quality.
Have you listened to any of Jot Davies’s other performances? How does this one compare?
No
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, I couldn't listen for long periods because I found it a little too scary! I really invested in the characters and it definitely made me emotional-
Any additional comments?
If you are a fan of suspense thrillers this book will definitely not disappoint.

The most gripping in the series!
I discovered this author only recently and have now read all in the series. Wolf gripped me from the start. Terrifying yet unable to stop listening. I really like the narrator who has read her last three books. The plot is clever and leaves you on the edge of your seat until the end. So sad that Mo Hayder is no longer with us - a great story teller but not for the faint hearted! Would recommend.

I LOVED every enthralling, suspenseful moment
What made the experience of listening to Wolf the most enjoyable?
The narrator was brilliant but I have to say I've never listened or read a Mo Hayder novel and now I'm hooked. Suspenseful story telling at it's best. Great twists and just a thrilling journey from start to finish
What was one of the most memorable moments of Wolf?
My favourite was fairly near the start when 'the moment everything changes' happens
What does Jot Davies bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
He was a brilliant storyteller, he told the story well differentiating the characters well but without detracting from the story
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
People are never quite who they seem !
Any additional comments?
I've now started the DI Caffery series from Book 1. Wolf was my first Mo Hayder which was book 7 of the series and although it stands out as a brilliant book in it's own right I need to know what happened before now. A summer full of Mo Hayder ahead I think

Ties all prior Caffery's together and much more!!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
yes, I would, but I would also recommend they read the other Jack Caffery books in order first to get the full impact at the ending of this book. Not sure, but this could well be the last one in the series as it answers many of Jack's 15 years of unanswered questions. I enjoyed this one immensely, albeit gruesome and cruel in large doses. Ms Hayder's writing, however, overcame any squeamishness on my part and I loved the way she wove all the story lines together. The climax was brilliant and a complete surprise. Can't recommend this book highly enough for those who enjoy well written suspense thrillers.
What other book might you compare Wolf to and why?
Yes, they are there somewhere in the back of my mind, but I can't bring them to light at the moment. There would be none, though, with the way the culmination of the crime took place in this book.
Have you listened to any of Jot Davies’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I have not, however, his performance was excellent and was perfectly suited to the restrained suspense all the way through the book. I love understated English accents. And, along with Michael Kitchen, Steven Pacey and others, Jot Davies does an exemplary job.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
this story is not going where you think it will.....
