BEST BOOK I'VE READ IN YEARS
- By decorator on 16-04-20
Summary
In her first work of contemporary women's fiction, bestselling author Kay Bratt draws on her own life experiences to create a raw, yet inescapably warm, novel about friendship and a wary heart's unexpected capacity to love.
A hungry, stray dog is the last thing Cara Butter needs. Stranded in Georgia with only her backpack and a few dwindling dollars, she already has too much baggage. Like her twin sister, Hana, who has broken Cara's heart one too many times. After a lifetime of family troubles, and bouncing from one foster home to another, Cara decides to leave it all behind and strike out alone - on foot.
Cara sets off to Florida to see the home of her literary hero, Ernest Hemingway, accompanied only by Hemi, the stray dog who proves to be the perfect travel companion. But the harrowing trip takes unexpected turns as strangers become friends who make her question everything, and Cara finds that as the journey unfolds, so does her life - in ways she could never imagine.

Wish. Me home by Kay Bratt
I really enjoyed this book. Although it's sad at times. The journey and development of the main character was very well handled.
I loved the relationship she has with the stray dog, and the people she met on her journey. It also has a happy ending which I like.

Wonderful and moving!
Wow, throughly moved by this book, it reminded me so much of a female modern day Travels with Charlie. Heartwarming tale of two sisters that are twins with opposite personalities. The kind and generous people met along a journey and an amazing dog! Highly recommend this book, totally worth the credit!

I'm so thankful for a good, positive, clean story.
This book started slowly for me. My husband and I listened while on a road trip. It took him longer to get into it. Eventually, he asked me to get the story going whenever it was interrupted. It kept him awake while driving. My husband enjoyed it. I'm so disappointed in so many other fiction books, because other books have so much detailed immortality that they make me sick. This book was great. This story involves a dog, but it also addresses being in the foster care system and family relationships and healing. It was refreshing. I will recommend it to my adopted daughter who has adopted many homeless dogs.

I wish I had not bought this, or listened to it
Very boring. None of the characters were relatable or likable. no chemistry for the love story. The only characters I liked were Hemi the dog and the other dogs at the Mission. The author threw in every timely topic she she muster up: depression, saving animals, sterility, domestic abuse, homelessness, co-dependency, foster homes, etc. She threw in many implausible situations, bot good and bad. I read the first few chapters, then skipped down by twos and listened to the first of several chapters. Then I finished off with the second to last paragraph and epilogue. That was it. I did not think it every became good, in fact it got worse as I went along.
The story, twin girls went into the foster care system - it was terrible. One became sterile and the other suffered from depression. Sterile twin hits the road and finds Hemi the dog along the way. She walks from Georgia to the Florida Keys, mainly because she likes Ernest Hemingway. She finds compatriots. Falls in love and then the story wraps up very quickly with the twins. The situations were most improbably and too contrived to be interesting. The narrator, however, was good. I am returning this book.
Oops. I just realized I cannot return this book because it sat in my library for over a year before I read it. You cannot return books that you purchased over a year previously. I know there was a reason this sat in my library so long. I probably started it, got bored and left it to come back to later. Problem is, I waited too long to get back to it. Lesson learned.

This was a fairytale book. Some of the things that happened were so very lame it was laughable. If you like this type of book, this one is for you. It would make a good Hallmark movie. Just not my cup of tea.
