Editor reviews

With an earnest and frank delivery, veteran performer Kate Hosking brings to life this moving story from novelist and teacher John Marsden. For years, Winter De Salis had been haunted by vague feelings and memories of her childhood. Now, at age 16, she decides she must return to her home, a place full of mystery and secrets, which she hasn’t seen since she was four years old. Rife with emotion and unexpected turns, Marsden’s Winter is stirring account of one girl’s valiant attempt to piece together the tragic mystery of her childhood.

Summary

For 12 years Winter has been haunted. Her past, her memories, her feelings, will not leave her alone. And now, at 16, the time has come for her to act. Every journey begins with a single step. If Winter is going to step into the future, she must first step into the past.

As I walked back towards Warriewood I couldn't help thinking about Matthew. Matthew Kennedy. Nice name. It was so annoying, I'd met him twice now and both times he hadn't put a foot wrong.

Critic reviews

"[A] knockout punch Marsden delivers here." (Publishers Weekly)
"Teens will especially enjoy the ferocity with which Winter stands up to the adults who try to take advantage of her." (School Library Journal)
