Another well written book by Yaros. Really easy read with many twists and turns. Hold on for the ride!

This is my first read/listen from Rebecca Yarros, and although it’s not disastrous, I finished it at least, it’s too cheesy for my liking. The setting for this story is aboard a cruise liner which has been turned into a college for a year. It stretches credibility tbh. Leah is onboard as part of a work study programme, or so she thinks, and lands minus her best friend who will join her at a later date due to illness. Pax is an extreme sports enthusiast filming a YouTube doc, his father owns the ship (eyeroll) and Leah is his tutor.

The story weaves its way around the relationship between Rachel and Pax (shock horror they become involved) the fact that someone seems out to sabotage the documentary by injuring/killing Pax and/or Leah, and the insistence from Pax that Leah moves out of her comfort zone, whilst he does very little to change his life to accommodate her. There are twists and turns along the way, including the sabotage, which always seems to land at Leah’s door.

I find Pax self absorbed, overly privileged, arrogant and self centred. I find Leah weak, far too easily manipulated, and far too insecure to be interesting. Their relationship is too sickly sweet for my liking (think I like my book relationships to be a bit toxic which drama and angst) . The whole “college in a cruise liner” is eye rollingly trite and most of the time pointless.

I did find some of the story interesting, mostly who the saboteur might have been, and I liked the other two Renegades Penelope and Lander, so I may splash out on the other books in the series.

Christian Fox did a superb job, should be declared a national treasure at this point, but I found Lauren Sweet a bit whiney.

I love a lot of this authors books, but this book’s story drowned in the erotica side of the plot . I got tired of hearing how the main characters felt about each other as it did not add to the story and it just felt tedious. The characters were okay and the narrators did a good job but this book is not for me. I won’t be reading further books from the renegades series.
