To everyone who knows them, best friends Miel and Sam are as strange as they are inseparable. Roses grow out of Miel's wrist, and rumors say that she spilled out of a water tower when she was five. Story
In 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box. But when the three Eastwood sisters join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement.

Story
For 20 years, the Palomas and the Corbeaus have been rivals and enemies, locked in an escalating feud for over a generation. Both families make their living as traveling performers in competing shows - the Palomas swimming in mermaid exhibitions, the Corbeaus, former tightrope walkers, performing in the tallest trees they can find. Lace Paloma may be new to her family's show, but she knows as well as anyone that the Corbeaus are pure magia negra - black magic from the devil himself.

Story
Meet Roger. Skilled with words, languages come easily to him. He instinctively understands how the world works through the power of story. Meet Dodger, his twin. Numbers are her world, her obsession, her everything. All she understands, she does so through the power of math. Roger and Dodger aren’t exactly human, though they don’t realize it. They aren’t exactly gods, either. Not entirely. Not yet. Meet Reed, skilled in the alchemical arts like his progenitor before him. Reed created Dodger and her brother. He’s not their father. Not quite. But he has a plan.

Ellingham Academy is a famous private school in Vermont for the brightest thinkers, inventors, and artists. It was founded by Albert Ellingham, an early 20th century tycoon, who wanted to make a wonderful place full of riddles, twisting pathways, and gardens. "A place," he said, "where learning is a game." Shortly after the school opened, his wife and daughter were kidnapped. The only real clue was a mocking riddle listing methods of murder, signed with the frightening pseudonym "Truly, Devious".

But even though she lives in Salem, MA, her magic is a secret she has to keep to herself. Then evidence of dark magic begins to appear all over Salem, and Hannah's sure it's the work of a deadly Blood Witch.

Georgia feels loveless - in the romantic sense, anyway. She’s 18, never been in a relationship, or even had a crush on a single person in her whole life. She thinks she's an anomaly, people call her weird and she feels a little broken. But she still adores romance - weddings, fan fiction and happily ever afters. After a disastrous summer, Georgia is now at university, hundreds of miles from home. She is more determined than ever to find love - and her annoying roommate, Rooney, is a bit of a love expert, so perhaps she can help.

Summary
Love grows such strange things.
Anna-Marie McLemore's debut novel, The Weight of Feathers, garnered fabulous reviews and was a finalist for the prestigious YALSA Morris Award, and her second novel, When the Moon Was Ours, was longlisted for the 2016 National Book Award for Young People's Literature. Now, in Wild Beauty, McLemore introduces a spellbinding setting and two characters who are drawn together by fate - and pulled apart by reality.
For nearly a century, the Nomeolvides women have tended the grounds of La Pradera, the lush estate gardens that enchant guests from around the world. They’ve also hidden a tragic legacy: If they fall in love too deeply, their lovers vanish.
But then, after generations of vanishings, a strange boy appears in the gardens. The boy is a mystery to Estrella, the Nomeolvides girl who finds him, and to her family, but he’s even more a mystery to himself; he knows nothing more about who he is or where he came from than his first name.
As Estrella tries to help Fel piece together his unknown past, La Pradera leads them to secrets as dangerous as they are magical in this stunning exploration of love, loss, and family.
Critic reviews
"No one does magical realism quite like McLemore, and this third novel, laced with slow-burning suspense, folklore, romance, and spun together with exquisite, luxuriant prose, proves it.... Sheer magic: fierce, bright, and blazing with possibility." (Booklist)

I will never get these 9 hours back
Cheesy story read cheesily. I was drawn in by the premise (which is sound), but the story fails to develop it. As the plot aimlessly meanders, one is left reading a middle school drama combined with equal parts Gardener’s Digest and a very surfacey reading of Marx, Foucault, and friends. The phrases “rich man” and “brown skin” appear so frequently it feels you’re reading a rambling young adult manifesto. Likewise, the obvious reversal of gender roles comes off as predictable rather than refreshing. There’s some good queer and class-conscious fairy tales out there — this is not one of them.

Took my breath away
This book started slowly, but by the end took my breath away. I spent the last hour or so crying, it was so beautiful and emotional. Like Blanca & Roja, this is a story about a family with a curse - this time one where the women can pull flowers from bare earth and who lose the ones they love. It's a story about love and family and loss and heartbreak. It's also a story about undocumented immigrants and uncaring rich men and what it means to be bisexual. It was poetic and lovely and spoke to my heart

Beautiful and lush
This was such a lovely read and so visual! I could see the garden in my head it was described so vividly! The story is so timely and well told and I loved the LGBTQ representation as well as the immigrant story. This will sit with me for a long while.
