About this listen

Lola Penelope Caruso is my favorite person to torment. When she’s had enough of me, her freckled cheeks go rosy, her tiny hands ball into fists, and she pulls at her signature tight braid and lets down her long red hair.

I thought I'd seen her at her worst when we told her she’d have to move from New York City to a dump in Jersey with our law firm. But then a six-year-old showed up at my office with a note around his neck and my smile on his face, and she had to ask: Who's your daddy?

Now annoying her isn’t quite as fun. Apparently my ability to keep plants and fish alive does not mean I’m qualified to raise a child. He's smart and funny, and I'm pretty sure he'll raise me with more success than I can him.

Fortunately, we have one thing in common: our infatuation with Lola. Is it possible that she could ever like me as much as she likes him?

This book for some reason I found myself switching off to the point where one minute I was on chapter five and the next thing I knew I was on chapter 20. Not sure what it was about it other than it felt like I’d listened to it before. It was quite funny but not to the point where previous series I found myself laughing out loud with this book I didn’t. The narration was fantastic.

Not as good as previous series

Lola & Cal are purely addictive. The push and pull, the banter, it is delicious. The surprise dad trope made for a wonderful story. Seeing the light & free manchild become the devoted father. Lost when he has to leave his child at school, it was adorable. Naturally, Lola is the person to keep everything moving seamlessly just like in the office. And seriously, how adorable is the ever serious Murphy. He is exactly what Cal needs to grow up just a little. I am so in love with this world. The Dad Coms are everything they were promised to be - pure entertainment.

The full cast narration is an absolute treat. Sean Masters and Angelina Rocca have wonderful chemistry and drew you in to the story with anticipation. Add in the additional casting of Connor Crais, Stephen Dexter and Cj Bloom and you get a cinematic experience in your mind.

Review:
This book is everything you want in a romantic comedy - sharp banter, laugh-out-loud moments, and a heartwarming twist that turns a carefree bachelor into an unexpected dad. Brittanee Nicole and Jenni Bara deliver a story that’s equal parts hilarious and heartfelt, making it a standout in the rom-com genre.

The setup is brilliant: our hero, a confident, slightly cocky lawyer who thrives on teasing his colleague Lola, suddenly finds his life flipped upside down when a six-year-old boy shows up at his office with a note and a smile that mirrors his own. From that moment, the story takes off in the best way possible.

Lola Penelope Caruso is a fantastic heroine - fierce, independent, and just the right amount of sassy. Her dynamic with the hero is pure gold. Their back-and-forth is witty and addictive, and you can feel the tension simmering beneath every exchange. What starts as playful torment evolves into something deeper as circumstances force them into each other’s orbit in a whole new way.

The child element is handled beautifully. He’s not just a cute prop; he’s a fully realized character who brings humor, vulnerability, and emotional depth to the story. Watching the hero stumble through fatherhood - googling parenting tips, panicking over bedtime routines, and learning what it means to put someone else first - is both hilarious and heart-melting. His growth from a carefree flirt to a man determined to be the dad this boy deserves is one of the most satisfying arcs I’ve read in a rom-com.

The romance is a slow burn, but the payoff is worth every page. There’s undeniable chemistry, but what makes it special is the emotional connection that builds alongside the humor. Lola doesn’t just fall for the hero; she falls for the man he becomes when he steps up for his son.

The writing is sharp, the pacing is perfect, and the tone strikes a great balance between comedy and heartfelt moments. If you love workplace banter, found family vibes, and a hero who goes from “I can’t even keep a plant alive” to “I’d do anything for my kid,” this book is for you.
