About this listen

For some, ghosts are no more than the wounds loved ones leave in their wake, haunting the living only with their absence. Others take a more literal view....

Kate Bennett, presenter of paranormal investigation cable TV show, Where the Dead Walk, isn't sure what she believes, other than she seems cursed to lose all those closest to her.

After investigating a neglected cliff-top house, empty for a decade because it's "haunted", Kate is convinced a spirit within holds the answers to a childhood she can't remember and an unimaginable crime.

What she can't know is that the house's owner, Sebastian Dahl, is searching for something too, and he intends to get it, whatever the cost.

I really enjoyed this supernatural mystery! Definitely not what I was expecting, but I was quickly drawn into Kate's story.
I really don't want to say too much for fear of spoiling it for anyone, but it has an excellent plot with a lovely slow build that makes you want to keep going. Lots of believable characters, plot twists and thrills along the way. This is smarter than your average ghost story!

I am a fan of paranormal so went in wanting this to creep me out and have me gripping the chair arm. It did not fail. Gripping from the start, the characters were very well realised and the plot moved along smoothly and quickly, but with an air of tension and creepiness that makes good supernatural stories. The conclusion was brilliant and not totally expected.
The narration was extremely good, with clear speaking good production, and defined characterisation.

Gripping, eery read

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would purely because it shows that the nature of the horror mystery isn't dead. It is multi-layered and although a bit long it is still very much enjoyable.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Where the Dead Walk?

No particular memorable moments, just a well structured book that hung together well.

What about Helen Clapp’s performance did you like?

Her performance was good enough to be unnoticed.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

As a horror story I was hoping a number of times to be jumpy or frightened, but it didn't quite come to pass, because it was more of a mystery than a shock type horror, but as I like crime this was a good thing.
