Summary

Ravenswick Hall has stood for centuries, watching over the ancient rookery that stirs beyond its west lawn. To the villagers, the house is a landmark. To the family who inherits it, it is something far more complicated—beautiful, burdened, and full of secrets.

When Lily returns to the estate that shaped her childhood, she hopes only to find her footing again. Instead, she uncovers traces of a past long folded into silence—unspoken histories, inherited wounds, and a mystery that refuses to rest. As the days unfold, memory and reality begin to blur, awakening questions she can no longer ignore. What truly happened in Ravenswick Hall? And why does the house feel as though it has been waiting for her?

Where Waking Ends is a quiet, immersive tale of family, loss, and the stories we carry forward. Atmospheric, intimate, and threaded with intrigue, it explores how the past lingers in the walls around us—and in the people we become.

I don’t normally read this kind of story, but I’m glad I gave this one a go. The author uses the plot to explore memory and how secrets and trauma can haunt both people and place as much as ghosts can (and there were plenty of those as well!). The description was vivid, and the plot unfolded carefully and with thought towards its natural conclusion.

I listened to the audio version, which had some brilliant narration which added to the atmosphere and brought the characters to life.

A haunting read

This is not my usual genre of audiobook but I am so glad I listened to this story. I was captivated from the beginning and stayed captivated as the story unfolded to its bittersweet conclusion. The audio narration was excellent with subtle differences between character voices adding life to the tale. There are a few editing issues (repeated lines, background noise) but these were minimal and didn't distract. I think ive found a new genre to listen too!
