About this listen

A cinematic horror about parenthood, children, and the monsters that pursue them. Perfect for fans of Joe Hill and Stephen King.

One night, Jess, a struggling actress, finds a five-year-old runaway hiding in the bushes outside her apartment. After a violent, bloody encounter with the boy's father, she and the boy find themselves running for their lives.

As they attempt to evade the boy's increasingly desperate father, horrifying incidents of butchery follow them. At first Jess thinks she understands what they're up against, but she's about to learn there's more to these surreal and grisly events than she could've ever imagined.

And that when the wolf finally comes home, none will be spared.

This starts off with a bang, and the action never slows, and then somewhere around a third through things go wild. it goes from action-packed horror to fantasy/sci-fi and continues on that path. Some things left me confused (like the needle - just a mcguffun I suppose) but the ending was very dramatic and compelling.

Excellent narrator, gripping yarn

This book absolutely floored me. The book opens with a bang, and takes you on a ride all the way through. I genuinely think I experienced the 5 stages of grief. I will absolutely be rereading, there was not a single thing I didn’t like about this book. The characters and the world felt so real, it was heartbreaking, the body horror was unbelievable and the never ending chase was so beyond thrilling. Nat Cassidy is easily one of my favourite writers. If you’re thinking about reading/listening stop thinking and just do it !

Heart stopping in every sense

This book at the first two chapters had me gripped then it suddenly just felt really predictable and the ending started to feel really obvious. I wanted to learn more about the wolf and their back story. Would have enjoyed it more if it had been a series of books maybe. It just started to feel a little rushed towards the end

Abit meh

Your enjoyment of this book will be proportionate to your tolerance for multiverse silliness. Highly rated for a 2025 horror but everyone else is wrong. I did finish it, but I wanted to bail four hours in and in hindsight I kind of wish I did.

Sadly not great
