Alix James/Nicole Clarkston is one of the foremost writers in the genre of Austenesque fiction and many of her works are very much longer than this short tale. However, the length (or lack thereof) by no means diminishes the quality of the writing in this case. Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy have no idea that they are staying in adjoining rooms at an inn. They end up sharing whispered confidences during the night through the closed door. Won’t say any more as I hate spoiler-laden reviews.

Megan Green isn’t as well known a performer in this genre as she should be and she put a whole lot of feeling into those “anonymous” conversations.

Heartbreaking start but oh so sweet in the end
