About this listen
Brooke Fowler lost her job, her boyfriend, and her grandfather in less than a week. So, when she finds out she inherited her grandfather’s rundown old house on Lake George, New York, she decides to take what little savings she has, plus a loan, and plans to flip the house.
Only bad things seem to follow Brooke wherever she goes. When the house is broken into and vandalized, not once, not twice, but three times, and she’s nearly broke, she decides it’s time to act and calls the name on the business card tacked to her grandfather’s corkboard.
New York State Trooper Tristan Reid normally didn’t answer his phone when he didn’t recognize the number, but sometimes he liked to have a little fun with the telemarketers. However, the person on the other end was no salesman. Having remembered Brooke’s grandfather, he goes to the house out of respect. What he finds is a beautiful woman who is way out of his league, but with a problem he can help solve.
Together, they unravel a 50-year-old mystery that could solve all of Brooke’s financial problems, giving her the freedom to flip the house and move on...or perhaps she wants to stay put...with Tristan.
©2017 Jen Talty (P)2018 Audible, Inc.Brooke's life is crashing down around her ears, it seems that every hour it lurches from one heartbreak to another, the disasters getting more personal, more targeted and far more dangerous.
Tristan is half in love with Brooke before they even meet, her grandfather has been singing her praises for as long as he knew him. But even a proud grandfather could never have prepared him for the woman she is, his woman, his soul mate.
We have met Tristan in previous books in this series and he never came across well, he always appeared to be a bit of an ass who constantly makes inappropriate comments. Here we not only get to see a different Tristan, we also get his history, his pain and his secrets. All of these allow him to be the man Brooke needs to guide her through the emotional tornado ripping through her life, a man who surprised me more than once and who, in his own awkward and clumsy way, stole my heart piece by piece.
This is a marmite book, you will either love it or hate it, I loved it! It's a fantastic, if emotional, addition to the series which is available on both Kindle Unlimited and Audible. I listened on Audible.
