Summary

For eight years Flora's love affair with Fin was a whirlwind of fun and spontaneity - but when Flora wanted to settle down and have children, Fin vanished. Life moved on and Flora's world filled with other people, other cares. There were benefits to being single - no socks under the bed, no mess in the bathroom - even if the memory of Fin could never be completely erased. But then suddenly, shockingly, Fin reappears. He's a changed man, he says, and her wants her back. Is this a chance to put right the wrongs? Or a massive mistake?

Predictable but pleasant

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I have to admit, I listened to a lot of it at 1.5 speed, which is like skimming I guess. I enjoyed it at that rate and it was good company as I did my errands/walks/etc.

Would you be willing to try another book from Hilary Boyd? Why or why not?

Not sure - I think they are probably formulaic.

Which character – as performed by Jenny Funnell – was your favourite?

Dorothea - the narrator did a good job giving each character individuality.

Could you see When You Walked Back into my Life being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Yes a TV movie but it is very very predictable.

Any additional comments?

It did have a surprise turn in the middle so that kept it interesting!

A good detox

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would because although this is not my normal sort of book its a really good detox, I've just listened to a couple of very intense stories (the sort that grab you by the throat and suck you into them) and this was a lovely mellow story that just slipped down. Some of the plot twists where slightly predictable but overall a very good romance.

Which character – as performed by Jenny Funnell – was your favourite?

I don't think I had a particular favourite, they all had their part to play but none of them really spoke to me….

Do you think When You Walked Back into my Life needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I don't think so, everything was very neatly tied up at the end and any attempt at a follow up could just turn it into a never ending soap constantly creating drama for the sake of it, I think all of the main characters who ended up together are the sort of people who would want a quite life and so should be allowed to receive it.

Love this novel - great characters!

I can't wait for Hilary Boyd to write her next novel as I've enjoyed all three so far. It's so easy to become involved with the characters and the reader switches feelings of sympathy between them in a way that does not leave the reader feeling manipulated. This is difficult to achieve and Hilary manages it brilliantly. The narration was first-class too. I was totally immersed in this novel, like a warm bath!
