About this listen

Cat shifter Bree Dwyer doesn't fear much. Ironically, what she fears most is the person who was put on the Earth just for her. Your true mate wasn't supposed to be cruel and twisted; wasn't supposed to be someone who'd never love or want to claim you. The rumors that her true mate is dead bring her only relief. Bree's intent on moving forward with her life and building a future with someone else. Sadly, the male she wants most is one she can never have - a hot-as-sin wolverine shifter who happens to be her boss...and the cousin of her predestined mate.

Aleksandr "Alex" Devereaux detests being bullshitted, but he's been lying to himself for years - pretending he thinks of Bree as extended family; that he doesn't want her so bad he aches with it; that he can't feel himself weakening against her pull. The night they spend together changes everything. He's done fighting himself on what he wants. Someone isn't happy about that. Possibly the same "someone" who's playing mind games with Bree, trying to scare her. They're succeeding, because too many leads point to the possibility that the culprit could be the one person that she's determined to believe is dead.

Contains mature themes.

Had already read the book, but bought it anyway just because I adore both mercury and Phoenix packaging wait to do it all over again with Olympus pride... I didn't even check the narrator when I bought the audio book....... Utter disappointment, this narrator ruined the book so robotic and fluffy and the usual sexy men in all previous books just sounded well... Meeeeeh. Gutted unless jill is back I won't be continuing with these books ....sad times

New narrator ruins my all time favourite series

The story line was ok, as was the narration but I found myself not feeling very gripped. It’s worth a listen all the same.

Mediocre

I’ve been on a binge listen through the Phoenix Paxk and Mercury Pack audiobooks and realised I didn’t yet own this despite although I had read the book. I loved the story just as much as I loved the others but I hadn’t clicked it was a new narrator, and whilst she was good for the female dialogue and the general narration her portrayals of Alex just didn’t jibe for me, she made him sound like an elderly man, not a dominant male in his prime. Jill Redfield was great at portraying the male characters they gave off a male vibe, If the narrator stays the same for future books in this series I’m not sure I will buy the audio as well as the book, which is a shame as I like the whispersync.

Great book, not sure about the new narrator

It wasn't great, but it was mostly good!

There were a few silly bits... such as EVERYONE hated the FMC, all the OTT sibling (psycho-ness) rivalry (by this point, all the new parents should've figured out the one child per household rule, rather than "let's re-enact Cain & Abel")... the Damien, spawn of the Devil "joke" got old real fast.

WHY were there Hyenas in North America, btw?!? 🤔

I kinda figured that there were previous books in this universe halfway through & maybe those give a better sense of the world building as this one just kinda assumes I know the factions, how it all works, why they're all shifters, mating, imprinting, etc... so, it's more of a figure it out as you read & hope you've understood it enough to carry on.

The heroine WAS smart & a badass, but she did make some real dumb decisions.

All the comments mention the twist & how amazing it was, but tbh I saw them all coming miles ahead as it was what made the most sense for the story being told 🤷‍♀️

I guessed all the twists, but I had them in the wrong order... I thought that one of the villains saw an opportunity & rode the other villain's coattails, but they were in cohoots afterall.

& the final reveal didn't really make sense IMO as someone (especially those who were the nearest & dearest) would've at least suspected something after all that time...
Honestly, I thought it was the same scenario, but in reverse... which would've made a whole lot more sense, rather than rewrite all the mating lore.

or, even the same scenario, but with a much shorter span of time... as it stood, it just became a very silly & nonsensical plot.

mostly good
