About this listen

Is that glow on the horizon humanity’s bright future… or a herald of fiery death?

It's 2029, and America’s space program, once a beacon of hope for the future, is now a guttering candle. Even as Roscosmos thrives and China’s manned space program reaches new heights, NASA prepares to send the last symbol of a once-mighty dream of exploration —the International Space Station —tumbling to its fiery death.

Then, from out of the darkness, something slams into the station, sending it spinning out of control… a new deep-sea habitat suffers a mysterious explosion after a visit from the Chinese Navy. Suspicions grow, tensions flare, and decades of economic and political posturing threaten to ignite a third global war.

Each passing day drags the major powers closer to conflict… almost as if someone, somewhere, is manipulating events to their advantage…

With war looming and the East and West splitting into two dominant factions, space becomes a strategic and critical goal for whoever controls space, controls humanity’s future.

While the world governments rattle their sabers and put their militaries on high alert, a pair of private space innovators hold the keys to conquering the final frontier… and a new, aggressive, and deadly space race roars to full throttle!

With two new global space agencies at one another’s throats, plans for putting a pair of permanent artificial gravity space stations in orbit are no longer a dream but a tactical necessity…and there can be only one victor.

In this gripping new near-future science fiction saga, you’re swept along on a river of discovery, innovation, romance, and espionage, all while riding the powder keg of a new world war that could detonate at any moment!

I have read a few of Scott Cook's books before but this is the first audiobook of his I've listened to. The story starts out with the ISS being knocked out of orbit when a rogue satellite strikes it, rendering it into almost junk. This sparks a space race between countries and private enterprises to regain a foothold in space, and beyond. I usually put an audiobook on in the car as background noise whilst I'm driving, but I found myself looking for any excuse too drive to listen to it. The narrator, Dave Alexander, really brings the book to life, his command of accents and different voices made it easy to follow who was who throughout the entire book and as a result it really engaged me. This is a narrator I will definitely seek out in future. As soon as the book ended I found myself eagerly awaiting part 2.

Captivating presentation
