Summary
How far can you push an obsession before paying the ultimate price?
Sometimes what you don’t know can hurt you. In Riley Harper’s case, it’s what she says she can’t remember. Nearly a decade ago, Riley was the suspect in a murder investigation that destroyed her life and drove her into a psychiatric facility. Locked away for years, she was always guilty in the eyes of an unforgiving public.
Now, after being released, all she wants is a fresh start, but the effort stalls when she becomes fixated on her new neighbor’s extravagant life. She can’t stop watching Samantha Light. And it’s curiously satisfying.
For now, at least.
Because there’s one more thing Riley doesn’t know. And this time it may not just hurt her - it could kill her.
In this intense psychological thriller from Andrew E. Kaufman, author of Twisted, a woman besieged by her past spins deeper into turmoil and down a slope that may lead her to madness.

Definitely a psychological thriller...but
This was a definite psychological thriller but it got a little confusing at times. Some confusion was in a sense intentional and eventually became relevant, but I found it hard to figure out what to focus on. There were essentially only 3 main/active characters the whole time and every single additional character was poorly integrated. I am still not 100% sure on what became of these people and their significance toward the story because they were very remarkable: a detective from the past with a vendetta, and an agoraphobic neighbor that overcomes her fears and ends up being “best friends” with the main character. They just kind of come and go. The narrator was a little over the top with melodramatics; at first she really embodied the emotions, then it got a bit much for me — quite a bit of actual screaming and shrieking. But all things considered she was just expressing what the author wrote. As a whole I stayed fairly interested and entertained but it wasn’t cohesive enough for me and left a lot unfinished and unclear. I don’t know if this last sentence I’m about to write is considered a “spoiler”, so read on accordingly....but I found the ending utterly depressing and it’s always a bummer when not only does no one win, but everyone completely loses.

Totally Unexpected
This is the second book by Andrew Kaufman that I have read and BOTH are so good! He definitely has a way of making you feel a certain way about the characters, then boom, there's a twist. One of the best writers with a knack for throwing in a complete curveball. I highly recommend both of his books!

My god I'm glad thats over!
If you dont mind being screeched at, crying or hysterical numb nuts, heres your book! I actually liked a lot of the first 1/2 of the book. It seemed to be going somewhere and was intriguing enough, I wanted to go. There were a few, huh?, moments but could overlook. I also kinda enjoyed Samantha's drawl. Then, good god it got waaay too irritating, with the screaming, crying and absolutely stupid moves by the protag. You stay tense and not in a good way! And finally instead of being unique and "whooa cool" it all turned predictable. I skipped thru a lot, the in-depth descriptions of their every angry moment..., "white hot, burned like molten steel, flowing lava",on and on was sooo over-done. I can just imagine this author having a ball doing an erotic sex scene! More screeching and ugly crying, more "wth, show Erin the text messages", moments, more skipping ahead, then the wonderful "Audible hopes you have enjoyed...." and SILENCE! I needed a valium.

Awesome
It has to be devastating when your child is murdered and everyone thinks you killed her. It is even worse when even your family thinks your guilty.
What if you knew who the killer was,but could not prove. How far would you go for revenge.
He beliefs lead ultimately to her undoing.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to read a gooood thriller.

WARNING: Incredibly Emotional!
I'm a HUGE fan of the mystery/thriller genre, so I thought this would be a great pic...and it was...however, it was INCREDIBLY emotionally draining. There was just too much sadness! There are so many depressing aspects to the story - it's a constant sob fest. I don't care to read/listen to nonstop crying. If that part was curbed, I definitely would have given 5 stars. It was just too depressing for my taste. The main part of the story plot was great - very different and creative - super creepy and you kind of don't really know who to believe. Which person is sane?? What's really going on?
