Elise Davenport was not having a good night. Just the day before she put her whole career on the line thanks to a few glasses of champagne. Loose lips can sink ships, and they can obliterate your social status. So here she was, stumbling through Fairhaven Park in pitch blackness, looking for the cabin she rented. She'd just hung up the phone with her agent when she heard the rumbling growl come from beside her. Not a good night at all.

From the mind of the man Stephen King calls "a master of the macabre", comes a brilliant new collection of no-punches-pulled horror stories, some never-before-collected and many originals that have never been published anywhere before. Bentley Little can take the innocuous, twist it around, and write a story that will change your way of thinking. Walking Alone: Short Stories is a shining example of his talent to scare you, creep you out, and make you shudder.

Summary
"Welcome to Parkview" reads the rusted sign along the outskirts of town. The tarnishing letters seem inviting, yet foreboding and mysterious. Is passing through such a wise idea?
The final destination may be more dangerous than the trip itself - an unapologetic journey through a town that thrives on sex, violence, and the macabre. A place built on deceit and temptation. A spot forever cursed with soulless transients, unforgiving lovers, and merciless vampires who hide in the shadows beyond.
The facade is peeled back just enough for you to see past its surface. There's but a glimpse of the darkness that put Parkview on the map. Then you realize that nothing here is a coincidence. In Parkview, it may be best to keep buried secrets quiet.
In Parkview, even truth can be a deception.

Confusing
I feel the synopsis for this was a bit misleading, and the story got so disjointed, I felt like giving up more than once. I can't reveal the last hour as that would spoil the 'plot'; but it felt like someone writing an essay, realising they only needed a hundred words to reach their limit; so jammed a whole lot of rubbish in regardless of the rest of the piece.

A Town Riddled with Cliches
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The ending was disjointed and abrupt. It didn't really resolve much and left me feeling it was a cop out.
What aspect of Rob Shamblin’s performance would you have changed?
Many mispronounced words distracted from the story.
Any additional comments?
The premise is interesting, but doesn't really deliver. The episodes are disjointed and loosely tied together almost as if they are separate unrelated short stories with some name changes. The ending is abrupt and doesn't make a lot of sense.
The writing is filled with cliches both in writing and situations. I found this very distracting to no end. (If you didn't get it, that's an example).
Narration is ok, but there are several mispronounced words which is distracting.
Ultimately Parkview is not a place I'd like to visit or revisit.

Not for me.
Unfortunately this wasn't for me. I just couldn't connect to the story nor the characters and really struggled to finish it. I liked the idea of the separate stories all coming together but I thought it just didn't work here. They didn't flow right. Plus the ending was a little abrupt. Saying that, I'm sure a lot of people will love this!!
Rob Shambin did a good job with the narration. I think my disinterest with the story made it hard to listen properly to the narration, but I can't fault Rob for that.
*I received a copy of this for review. This in no way affected my thoughts.*

Parkview,not your average town
What did you love best about Welcome to Parkview?
The book was a series of short stories all related to the town of Parkview. There were characters you met and glimpsed or heard about in later stories.
What other book might you compare Welcome to Parkview to and why?
Hard to compare to others since other books of short stories contain different stories which aren't related.
Which scene was your favorite?
I loved the story of the robbers and the money. I was worried more of the kids might find harm.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Some of the stories made me laugh at what the characters were doing.

I didn't realize this was a collection of short stories at first, so I was pretty confused after the first story lol. But they were great. Parkview definitely seems like an interesting place to live. It got a little weird at the end because I personally find it a little strange when an author writes himself into his/her books. But this gets a solid 4 stars from me.

Unlike anything I have ever read!
I thought I knew what to expect from Welcome To Parkview. After the first chapter I found myself thinking "What is this, some dry young adult "thriller"? I kept listening as each chapter left me just a bit more perplexed than the last. In the end, I was extremely satisfied and saddened it was all over. You probably won't see much coming. It is a very unique experience. Enjoy the ride! This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of Audiobook Blast.
