Summary

When a traveling circus comes to the town of Wachita, Texas bad things begin to happen under the Big Top. Super-sized sleuths, Sue Jan and Lovita take to the tents to track down a crazy clown killer, even though Lovita is fixing to give birth in just a few short weeks. And if that's not enough, a scary Sasquatch is sighted in the Wachita woods, attracting a TV news reporter, a Bigfoot investigative team and a reality show film crew. The townsfolk are shaking in their cowboy boots but Sue Jan and Lovita aren't clowning around.

Sassy mysterious goings on

I really enjoyed this book, so much happens and not all of it expected. I liked the unusual plot of a circus visiting a small town. Combine that with some interesting and colourful characters and you have got a very funny murder mystery on your hands. The main characters are fun and I like the fact that they are not the normal run of the mill super sleuths that can take down a bad guy with one punch, in fact they are better than that and can solve a murder while pregnant and on bed rest. Can't wait to see how the story develops with the addition of a little one.
The circus is arriving in town, with a bang. Literally, a gun goes off sending one of the performers to hospital. This wasn't the first accident or mishap to be fall the small traveling circus. Some of the mishaps could be written off as accidents or bad timing but when one of the longest running performers dies in front of them and whispers out a clue with her last breath It's not long before Lavita and Sue Jan are juggling a murder investigation and claims of big foot sightings. Is this a coincidence that the circus arrival also brings a film crew hunting the Bigfoot? They had better wrap this investigation up soon because Lavita is about to give birth. Is it that why she keeps fainting and feeling sick or is someone out to make sure they don't pull a rabbit out of the hat.
I really like the narrator and think she has put in a splendid performance of her own with this reading.

A Circus, Murders, Bigfoot And A New Arrival.

This is a lovely series of crime novels combining excellent mystery's with gentle humour and a slice of cherry pie, small town, America. The central characters are beautifully rounded and create a warm empathy with the listener. The fabulous narration brings an extra dimension and life to the novel, drawing in the listener for every twist and turn of the storyline. After completing the novel the listener is additionally rewarded with mouthwatering recipes, an idea Agatha Christie missed.

A secret sleaker than cut ochra

A circus is coming to town and Sue Jan is excited. Colourful characters, the thrill of the big top - and murder! But that's not all. The small town of Wachita is also invaded by the press when rumours of a Big Foot sighting also start to circulate. The two lovely large ladies from the beauty shop hairdressers can't resist getting involved in the investigation even if Lovita is in the final days of her pregnancy and Sue Jan (the mayor's wife) has just found out that she, too, is expecting again.

So delicious to catch up once more with the curious gossipy crime sleuthing characters from small toiwn, Texas. They might be a bit silly at times but always funny and, mostly, good natured. SueJan and Lovita's husbands feature more prominently this time, too. The actual murder mystery is a bit convoluted, totally crazy and unrealistic. But that's not what makes these books the joy that they are. It is the people, the trivia, the conversations and the humanity.

Without Michelle Babb's marvellous narration, these fun stories would still be enjoyable. But Ms.Babbs makes them sublime with her wonderful interpretation of the two main protagonists, the Fat Ladies themselves. And her voicings of all of the other characters is equally good, each one given their own distinct accent and tone, and bringing them all to life. The text reading, too, is full of warmth and expression making these lighthearted mystery books so very more-ish

I can fully recommend all of the Fat Lady stories by Linda Cozar to everyone who enjoys larger than life, eccentric and somewhat silly small toiwn characters who are, nevertheless, both endearing and realistic especially when so perfectly performed by the narrator. And with an adventure each time, a mystery to be solved well, what more could anyone want?

It's OK.

Any additional comments?

I didn't like this one as I liked the others in the series. I believe it is more to do with Sue Jan's immaturity and humour that I did not find funny.
Michelle Babb is excellent as a narrator. She brings out all the characters in the book.

Crazy good!

Another fun mystery from the beauty salon in Texas. Each one is as funny as can be, and the investigation by two great friends is always enjoyable, never disappointing. See publisher's blurb for plot clues, no spoilers here. Just be prepared to be amazed by all the quirky developments!
Michelle Babb continues to give voice and interpret the personalities faithfully to the written, and add even more!

Michelle is a great narrator and she knows how much I love this little series...she is always kind enough to offer me a copy to review...and I love the story every time! This one was super great...there is a circus in town, and mysterious murders are happening...and even some sasquatch sighting! LOL Of course our lovely fat ladies are ON IT! Both are pregnant, but that doesn't stop them...even though poor Lovita is about to pop any day now...they of course solve the mystery, and just in time for Lovita to have her beautiful baby girl!! LOVED IT!!

THIS WHOLE SERIES IS WELL WORTH YOUR TIME AND CREDITS...ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A COZY MYSTERY LOVER!!!

Weighty Matters

The circus has come to town and the bodies are piling up. BFF’s Lovita and Sue Jan are on the case. There’s loads of laughs to go along with the mystery as these pregnant ladies do their thing.

Another entertaining story by Linda P. Kozar. I really enjoy the humor, snarky comments, and interactions with the two leading ladies.

The stories in this series are a lot of fun and that’s due in part to the great narration by Michelle Babb. Very entertaining!

Curious about the circus?

Weighty Matters is one to reread over and over! I cried and laughed so hard with this book my husband asked if I was okay. Sue Jan and Lovita help to solve some murders and some weird things going on in the circus that comes to town. These girls are on a mission and nothing will stop them not even a big foot!

I absolutely love this series.

I absolutely love this series. It's one of my most recommended series and my most recommended cozy mystery series. Sue Jan and Lovita are causing mischief again but this time they're carrying buns in their ovens. Does that stop them from getting involved in and solving a multiple murder plot? Heck no! The circus characters were so funny and the entire scenario was so good. I hope Kozar writes more in the series because I NEED more!

But! you cannot fully enjoy this book unless you listen to Michelle Babb narrating. She has the perfect comedic timing for the two leading ladies and knows them so well that you can practically visualize them as they stumble and fall through these unlikely incidents. I'm sure you could enjoy the adventure without listening to Babb, but why would you want to?

Okay but

Not my favorite of the series. Good enough for three stars but I doubt that I will listen to it again. Michelle Babb does a wonderful job with the narration but the story was just not there for me.

Another really fun ride with Sue Jan and Lovita

This series is so fun and just continues to entertain me and make me smile with each installment. Sue Jan and Lovita are my favorite fictional friends and I feel like I am part of their circle now. I enjoyed the circus aspect of this story and all the different performer's and their personalities. I was completely stumped by the mystery and the author successfully lead me down the wrong path multiple times. The end was so sweet and I can't wait to see where else this author takes these characters. The narration was wonderful and really brings these characters to life. I felt like I could clearly see these characters and when I think of them, I hear the narrator in my head.

Last audiobook of the series for now

I received a copy of this book in audio format from the narrator in exchange for a honest review.

Weird things start happening again when a traveling circus comes to Wachita. Just at their arrival there is an attempt of murder one of the crew members. Sue Jan and Lovita will not be able to refrain themselves from investigating this new mystery, even though Lovita is almost at the end of her pregnancy. Things start to get even weirder when a bigfoot is spotted in the woods surrounding the town and people from the media arrive in order to document it.

I have listened to this book with a mix of joy and sadness. I love this series, and knowing that for now this is the last book makes me sad, because I will really miss Sue Jan and Lovita, and their adventures. In this case we are against a quite convoluted mystery, in which we have several people being murdered and many possible culprits. The plot is interestingly built, with the right dose of humor and witty comments from our two female forensics to keep the listener hooked to the story.

This time I had more issues keeping track of all the new characters because there were more than in previous books, most of them belonging to the circus crew, but Kozar did a good job again at giving them distinctive characteristics and personalities. I think she has great abilities in creating picturesque characters and bringing them to life in a way that the listener is able to see them in their mind.

This series is very good, but my main reason to listen to these books is that they are narrated by Michelle Babb. I am sure that she could read the shopping list and make it compelling. The characters' personalities gain an extra dimension thanks to Babb's narrating and interpreting skills. And she is able to make the witty comments sound even funnier than they would be in print.

There is a seventh book of this series but it is not available yet as an audiobook. I hope it will be soon though. I will miss Sue Jan and Lovita and their crazy adventures.
