About this listen

Billionaire businessman in need of a fake fiancée...

It should be the easiest job ever for an out-of-work actress, right?

All I have to do is pose as Grant Caldwell (the Third)’s fiancée for a fancy-pants weekend in the Hamptons. Easy. Wear designer clothing and sip champagne? Don’t mind if I do. Flirting with Grant? It’s so delicious I should be paying him.

Nothing can go wrong as long as I can keep my hands off of him.

But that’s the hard part. And I do mean hard.

Because Grant is sexy. And bossy. And surprisingly sweet, a real rarity in his pretentious family.

Oops. I’m not as good at faking it as I thought. Or maybe they call this method acting. Because it’s getting harder to figure out where my character ends and I begin....

It just might be the role of a lifetime.

Weekend Wife is a stand-alone romantic comedy with a sexy billionaire, a sassy heroine, and a happily ever after.

Loved the dual narration of Laura English and Gavin McAllister, perfect for this book

I haven’t read many books by Erin McCarthy, but after reading this one I would definitely be open to checking out more. I found myself liking both main characters. Leah and Grant were very different. She was a waitress, and he was a billionaire. She had a happy childhood with loving parents, he was raised by the nanny. What brought them together was a once-a-week breakfast at the diner she works at. One day a crazy chain of events leads them to changing their relationship from waitress/diner to lovers. And things just keep changing and developing from there. I liked that the progression of their relationship is clear and makes sense. It flows really well and was highly entertaining. I think their feelings may have escalated quickly, but it didn’t come from nowhere. There were talks, conversations, questionnaires even that helped them get to know each other. There just also happened to be a contract that hurt a lot more than it helped anything. But overall, it was a good story and was really well narrated. I loved the energy that the female narrator brought to the character. Leah was very animated from the way she was written by the author, I was happy to hear the narrator bring that same energy. I liked the male narrator, Gavin McAllister, as well, definitely no complaints, he just didn’t quite stand out as perfect for his character the way that Laura English (a new to me narrator) was perfect for her character Leah.

My Thoughts on Weekend Wife

I had read the ebook version of the story about 2 years ago, and I liked it, but the audiobook version was so much more fun. The story itself combines fake relationship and billionaire tropes, along with some witty writing and likable main characters (especially compared to most of Grant’s family).

The audiobook is performed by Laura English and Gavin McAllister, both new-to-me narrators, and they did an amazing job. I would definitely listen to more by the author and/or narrators in the future.

5 stars for the audiobook!

Just when I needed a funny, easy, romantic listen, Erin McCarthy comes through with Weekend Wife! I absolutely loved her Fast Track audio series and was thrilled to see this release. Meet Leah. Starving actress, she is working at a diner where she has a crush on Grant, a regular. Serving him breakfast, while exciting for her even though his moods are not the best was a bright spot in her day. That is until he decides he is no longer going to frequent the diner, leaves her a big tip and walks out.Running after him, she injures herself and from there our story truly begins. These two have have such chemistry, it only makes sense to hire her to be his girlfriend for the weekend. He needs to get his family off his back. Funny, frustrating, crazy family, passionate, you name it and McCarthy weaves her story. Grant is a character. He is in love with Leah, but being afraid of commitment, leaves him stuck in his own head. Leah is ambitious, ready to take the role all the way, and at points we wonder, is she even acting? And hysterical family members, leaving us with our mouths hanging open, laughing and completely shocked at times. I loved this story with the "sassy" Leah! She had me at the first breakfast order!

Narrated by Laura English and Gavin McAllister, these two new to me narrators had my attention! English plays the sassy role to a "t" and creates the persona of Leah perfectly. She keeps her attitude in check, but we can feel her frustration and love pouring out through her voice. McAllister nails the part of Grant. Self confident, yet unsure, business like, yet alluring, this man has Grant's personality figured out. Together, their comedic timing and voices compliment each other and had my smiling the entire listen.

Funny and romantic!

This enjoyable and fabulously delightful romantic comedy drew me in, grabbed my attention immediately and captivated it the entire book. I adored the two lead characters, Grant Caldwell the third and Leah Romano, Leah has had a crush on Grant who has been coming into the diner where she works once a week for the past six months, but he is not very amicable. Going there and ordering the pancakes was nostalgic for him, a way to remember his favorite person growing up, his nanny. Leah became another reason he went there, but he did not think she was interested in him, and he decided this would be his last visit there and tipped Leah generously as a goodbye. Leah thought he made a mistake and ran to catch up with him and wound up spraining her ankle. Grant gets her home and takes care of her and makes sure she elevates her hurt ankle in some of the steamiest of ways. Grant is anti-relationship and Leah needs to focus on getting her acting career off the ground, so they agree that would be it for them, despite the chemistry between them. When Grant’s family gives him an ultimatum, he must find a girlfriend to take to his parent’s anniversary celebration in the Hamptons and after contemplating what to do he comes up with a solution, he will hire an actress to be his pretend girlfriend for the weekend. He just knows the perfect person, an actress who could use the job. Leah accepts with some reluctance and adds her own rules to the contract, which Grant agrees to, but there is more brewing between these two they then like to admit there is. This beautifully written and plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, humor, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. The shenanigans, witty banter, and dialogue are absolutely brilliant and lots of fun, and will definitely put a smile on your face. Erin McCarthy, thank you for this wonderful story, the laughs and the emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, Laura English and Gavin McAllister did an awesome job bringing these characters and their story to life. They had a complete understanding of the characters they portrayed, gave each a voice that fit the character’s persona perfectly, sounding believable and just as I pictured the characters to sound. Laura English nailed it as Leah, grasps her bubbly personality and her determination and strength. Gavin McAllister’s Grant was spot on too, a straitlaced, all business alpha who gradually thaws throughout. Both were great performing the roles of the secondary characters as well. You could hear how much heart they put into their work as they captured the character’s emotions and projected them into their performance. They set the perfect tone for the story, handled the witty dialogue with ease and landed the humor effortlessly. These talented and versatile voice artists are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this fabulous listen.
