About this listen

It's been a long, hard winter in Burracombe. At Burracombe Barton, Hilary Napier is doing her best to keep the estate ticking along. Alice Tozer sees her youngest daughter off on the adventure of a lifetime. And all is not well in the village school. As the first crocuses bring colour and the promise of change back to Burracombe, the villagers find ways to help each other through the hardships. And there are two weddings to plan and it won't be long before everyone in this very special village comes together in a joyful celebration of love, life, and the things that matter most.

Anne was a fabulous narrator again, first class. Her accents and timing are excellent. She really brings the story to life.

I seem to be utterly addicted to these stories of Burracombe. However, some of the characters really annoy me. In this book there were a couple of extra ones added that I found so frustrating and terrible! Would be nicer to have more positiveness and happiness in such well written stories. In addition I still haven’t warmed to Stella at all, she’s such a wet lettuce.

It is a timely reminder of how far women have come in the last 70 years, from being owned by their father until they were 21 and then owned by their husband. Very little freedoms, being expected to stay local even if it made them utterly miserable and give up their job without question when they married.

I loved the addition of a few extra characters, I am really rooting for a couple of them.

Fabulous narration, great story

Oh what a lovely story once again about the village of Burracombe and read wonderfully by Anne Dover. Lilian Harry writes such delightful books which can be both happy and sometimes sad. It is easy to imagine the village and the people who live there.
