Summary

New York Times best-selling author Charles Martin's breathtaking novel of love and redemption.

Charlie Finn had to grow up fast, living alone by age 16. Highly intelligent, he earned a life-changing scholarship to Harvard, where he learned how to survive and thrive on the outskirts of privileged society. That skill served him well in the cutthroat business world, as it does in more lucrative but dangerous ventures he now operates off the coast of Miami. Charlie tries to separate relationships from work. But when his choices produce devastating consequences, he sets out to right wrongs, traveling to Central America, where he will meet those who have paid for his actions, including a woman and her young daughter.

Will their fated encounter present Charlie with a way to seek the redemption he thought was impossible - and free his heart to love one woman as he never knew he could?

Wonderful!

Where does Water from My Heart rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's pretty high up there. I definitely recommend.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Main character. He's flawed, but overall a good person.

Which character – as performed by Kevin Stillwell – was your favorite?

Well, he performed all of them, so kind of answers itself. I have to say, Kevin Stillwell reminds me of Scott Brick but in a good way. I tend to not listen to Scott Brick because he's too overdramatic, in my opinion. So I really enjoyed Kevin Stilwell.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!

Never a disappointment

Would you listen to Water from My Heart again? Why?

This book was written from the heart. Both my husband and listended to this book together and ended it with tears streaming down our cheeks. What a wonderful story of opening hearts and forgiving ourselves.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Charles. A man with flaws that all of us have and none of us want to admit to but with the strength to admit to them.

What does Kevin Stillwell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He takes me to the place of the story. He is stunning.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made us cry. We loved it.

Any additional comments?

Charles -- take some much needed time off, but please hurring back to your keyboard.

Another great Martin story of love and redemption.

Enjoyed this book except, as with other Charles Martin books, it kept me up listening. Of course that the sign of an enjoyable book now isn't it.

How I disliked this book, let me count the ways!!!

This was my first novel by this author (Charles Martin). I am so sorry that I chose this particular book. I read so many awesome reviews on his books, that it was hard to choose. Sadly, I settled on this one. Perhaps one of his others is much better. If someone has a suggestion for another book of his that I should try, please let me know. I may try again.

Now, for the detail. I downloaded "Water from My Heart" to my audible phone app and listened to it on the way home from my daughter's house. So, I had 5 plus hours to listen intently to this story.

First, I will critique the story of (Water from My Heart). I listened to 10 chapters of the main character (Charlie) droning on and on and on and on (you get the picture) about how perfect, self-centered, self-absorbed, narcissistic and arrogant he was. I felt like I was being TOLD the same character flaws over and over to the point I was ready to attack the speakers in my car in frustration! I found myself groaning and rolling my eyes, then looking out the window to see if anyone was seeing my faces. I am sure it would have been comical if it had not been so painful. Finally, I could not take it anymore and skipped through the beginning of each chapter just to get to the end. I don't want to give any spoilers, so I will leave it at that. I will never try to listen to this book again.

Now, for the narrator (Kevin Stillwell). Wow! He is a very gifted narrator. His voice is easy to listen to (not irritating in general when narrating adult characters / however, read on for opinion on other characters). His name "Stillwell" is very appropriate as a description of the quality of his voice. I started out loving the sound of his voice. He was very easy to listen to and he did a great job of conveying (main character/Charlie) the author's story. However, since I was driven to dislike the main character, it is a natural effect that at some point, I started disliking the sound of Kevin Stillwell's voice! But, I think that is a compliment to a job well done on his part. Now to the one complaint I have about Kevin's narration . . . the narrator's reading for a 12 year old girl did not work at all. It made me laugh actually . . . so took me out of the story. There is simply no way a man with his masculine voice, can make a 12 year old girl sound like a 12 year old girl. I don't know how you get past that issue other than don't narrate books that have children speaking. I'm sorry, but that was painful. I would have given him 5 stars, except for that.

6 Stars!

Incredible, heart wrenching, inspirational and uplifting. This fictional story incorporates a real life, historical account of a hurricane that devastated Nicaragua. In addition, worldly wealth and perceived happiness are eventually given up for true contentment. Priceless!

The longer I have been a member of audible the more stingy I have become with my 5 star ratings. If I could give a book 6 stars I would.
