Summary
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Watching You by Lisa Jewell. Gripping psychological suspense from the number one best-selling author of Then She Was Gone, as what begins as an innocent crush develops into a dangerous infatuation.
You’re back home after four years working abroad, with a brand-new husband in tow.
You’re keen to find a place of your own. But for now you’re living with your big brother, camped out in his spare bedroom.
And then - quite unexpectedly - you meet the man next door.
He’s the head teacher of the local high school. He’s twice your age. And he’s devastatingly attractive. Soon you find you’re watching him. All the time.
But what you don’t know is that someone is watching you.
Or that what has started as an innocent crush is quickly turning into an obsession as dark as it is deadly.

A slow burner
I found the beginning sounded a bit too light hearted for a thriller, maybe because of the narrator’s accent BUT I stuck with it and it turned out to be a good listen in the end. I read Lisa Jewell’s first novel and loved that.

Narration one of the best I have heard and a great storyline. I guessed who did it half way through but that didn't matter as there was an extra unexpected little twist at the end. Fantastic
The thing that sets Lisa Jewell apart is her characterisation. I found this book utterly compelling especially Freddie the teenage boy who is “on the spectrum”, very well done. I think it’s not as easy as it looks to create “ordinary” characters who are interesting and engaging but Jewell is a master at this craft. It sets her apart from all those novels where the author feels compelled to give characters high powered and/or interesting jobs for example.
All in all a great read with a zinger of am ending.
