About this listen

Benaiah has joined David's band of outlaws and, in the process, has become a mighty warrior. When David finally comes to the throne of Israel, Benaiah and his family settle down for a life of peace. But little do they know; the true battle is only beginning. The family of Goliath seeks revenge, David's heart is distracted by temptations, and the unity of David's Mighty Men is pushed to its limit. When David does the unthinkable, Benaiah is faced with the fiercest challenge of his life. David is the Lord's anointed, but justice must be done. What will Benaiah do when all he holds dear is threatened or lost?

I am so chuffed to have found series about David's mighty men, and one that sticks very close to the accounts in the Bible. The narrator did a blindingly good job on the whole except Jerusha sounded so pathetic I was hoping she would get killed off. Benaiah is one of my favourite biblical characters, and the author has made his character very true to how I imagined him. Poor Uriah, it is one of the saddest accounts in the Bible and I wonder what could have happened if David did not get overtaken by lust resulting in the sword never leaving him. Thankfully the story left out all the sordid details, but Bathsheba seemed to get off very lightly in this book (for someone who openly bathes nude in open view of the king. Come on now, she knew what she was doing.) Can't wait for the final book, I highly recommend this series. Action packed and with no slushy boring love scenes and I say that as a woman. So tired of Christian love stories the Bible is full of action and these books reflect that.

Absolutely Excellent - can't wait for book 3
